Explains a lot about Indian movies... not everything, but a lot.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

yes bollywood 'appropriates' a lot of regional folk dances, music & straight up songs all the time. there are also smaller regional movie markets like telugu, bhojpuri etc that feed into it.

They then also took one look at some random Swedish cop comedy with over the top stupid action scenes and decided, that, that should be our new big thing.

I remember being a young, rhythmless, white child, and not understanding why this was funny. I legit had absolutely no dancing ability (still don't), and I was so very confused about why this was silly. To further clarify context: I was about 9 when this episode aired.

I wonder how many takes it took to get it *that* awkward.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

A good dancer and physical comedian can get it in one, it's the extras who have to keep from corpsing

I don't just like this, I love it!

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Check out the movie RRR then! It's got dances from the clip in it

RRR, it's on a bunch of platforms now. Highly recommend it.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

It's the most anime non-anime movie I think I've ever seen.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

He looks like he's having a great time. I hope sjws and Karen's don't harass him for "appropriating"

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 6

Agreed, he seems genuinely happy to learn and dance, and I like that <3

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I mean, cultural appropriation is a real issue, but yeah, this isn't it. This is cultural appreciation.

2 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Omg! I was thinking the same thing! Everyone in this looks very happy to share their culture.

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

Anyone is happy to share their culture, even the Karens. And he's doing an excellent job actually learning AND teaching others in the process too (i didn't know of any of these different styles). But yeh, Karens like taking issue with things that aren't their business.

I’ve always wanted to see this movie just because of this scene. The energy is infectious, the music and dance amazing!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There's a song and dance number from this movie, done by a throng of all women, that has more YouTube hits than this one

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh I’m so gonna have to check it out. Thank you for mentioning it:)

Oh! I haven't cried to that video in half a decade. Welp, it's overdue...

2 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

Thank you for allowing me to remember this beautiful video

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

OMG YES!!! I literally JUST told my significant other about that last week!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same. I think there will never be enough people traveling the world and dancing.

2 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

He recently did an update where he answers some questions. His entire trip was paid for by an advertiser, like Stride Gum or something.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think his first was on his own dime, but the other two (or at the very least the last one, IIRC) was sponsored by Stride so he could go to many more and more remote locations. Corporations are gonna corporate, but sometimes we do get some Very Nice Things as an accidental result.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've never seen this before and it is more than beautiful. Thank you for sharing this. ♥

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah, as silly and simple as his videos started out, I don't think I ever saw a better example that, despite our differences, showed exactly how alike we all are, deep down inside.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I got to dance with Matt. I had completely forgotten about it until you posted that video. Thank you!

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

This is much better than where the hell is Matt because this guy actually learns the dances of the places he’s visiting. Matt just did his same dumb dance and a bunch of different places.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 10

He also did a vid in 2012 where her learned the local dances. https://youtu.be/Pwe-pA6TaZk

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thank you. I stand corrected.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No problem!

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Really watch the video and the making off, he learned the local dance moves in India with no previous dance experience. Also this was 2008.

Step 1: already know how to dance without looking physically dyslexic

2 years ago | Likes 59 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

OK that's funny. Also, there is an official word for this state: dyspraxia/dyspraxic.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's a very rude and disparaging way to talk about dances from a different culture. A little bit more respect for others would do you good.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 13

He was referring to the guy learning the dances, lol.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

He means some of us dance like we don't know in which order to move our limbs. Like a dyslexic but with limbs.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It wasn't a comment on these specific dances, it's a comment on dancing in general. Which some people just aren't good at no matter what culture they belong to.

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Indeed. I was referring to myself as the one who doesn't know how to dance

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

My condolences. I hope there is a style of dance that suits your dyslexic limbs that you've just not discovered yet.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

physically dyslexic... i have to remember this... its the simpliest and shortest way to describe it so well....

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Suddenly I can describe my movements

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Wrong! Physlexic is the simplest and shortest way

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That’s a great description. All those people that say “just listen to the music and let your body move” don’t seem to get that some people just don’t know how to move and feel awkward doing so.

2 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

It's like playing music to me. Lifelong musician, been doing jazz semi-pro for a decade now. I think of the lick or line I want to play, know my ending point and where I'm going next, and everything else is muscle memory or synchronicity. I can't do this with dancing in the slightest. It's gotta be similar, and I just cant

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's exactly like knowing how to run or throw a ball properly. If you grow up without practicing the skill, it's going to be awkward and clumsy when you do try to do it.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Yep. I have decent hand/eye coordination, but stuff like dancing feels unnatural. I’ve spent the last several years learning to spin poi so it’s getting better, but coordination is still a problem.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I see this a lot in basic broom usage or mopping the floor. Some people just don't have the "logic" to sweeping a floor and need to be taught in specific steps how to do it. Also what not to do. It seems like a basic skill but so many grow up never needing to do it so they just don't know how to.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Teaching grown adults to sweep/mop is a rare joy in life 💯

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As I've been raising my kids, it's amazed me the things I feel are "simple" that they struggle with. I understand it and am perfectly patient with them over it, but it still fascinates me sometimes. Like, most recently I've been teaching my daughter to fry eggs, and she just does such a terrible job with keeping the skillet clean. I never have even a crumb of egg left in the skillet when I'm done but she will leave it with a thick layer baked on, even with large amounts of oil involved.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And it's because there's a motor skill component there that just hasn't become second nature for her like it has for me.
