Åland

This is Åland! It's a group of islands between Sweden and Finland, belonging to Finland. Åland is demilitarized and autonomous and the main language is Swedish.

10-ish

I woke up, realised I had made plans to make this post, and hastily tried to make my bed to take a picture. My bed is kinda large for one person, but I like that. Gives me room to sleep even if my cat takes up most of the bed ^^

Breakfast!

Sandwiches with ham and some saft (idk the word in English. You mix like a juice-y thing with water and it's saft *shrug*) while browsing the internet. Normally I put any fluids on a table next to my desk, because I once spilled hot cocoa on my computer.

Heading out, 11-ish

So since it's a sunny day and summer (aka the one time of the year when people do all the stuff) my family decided we should head out to our "new" cottage (it's not actually new per se (It was built in the 1800s) but we bought it recently so it's new to us)

Here's a food store. There's a mall opposite that was built recently but I couldn't take a picture because the angle was kinda awkward.

Since it's a group of islands, there's a lot of water to be seen.

... and fields. We have a lot of farming going on too.

At the cottage!

This is a really cool birch we have nearby, I like it :)

It's not much, but it means a lot to us. We haven't always had a lot of money, when I was little my mom and I lived in a tiny apartment, so this is a huge step up ^^

The previous owners left sooo much trash out in the woods on our new lot. It's a bit sad that people often take these kinds of places for granted and don't care for them.

13-ish

Sorting all the trash at the trash station means you get really dirty hands.

But the result was worth it :) The barrels will be left because I guess someone wanted to make art out of them?

14-ish - food!

We were really hungry after carrying stuff, so we went to this place called Knallen and got some food. I would have taken a picture of it, but I was really hungry. The food was pork, potatoes and bearnaise sauce. Nothing special, but tasty all the same.

These thingies are hung on the maypoles during midsummer :)

15-ish - Heading back home

This is a nice little thing that says "Have a nice day (at) Kobbaklintar!" I've always thought it was very sweet.

Home

We were all kinda tired when we got home, so I took a quick shower and then watched some Gravity Falls (third re-watch. I love this show)

18-ish - Decided to go to the beach

I regained some energy and felt like going down to the beach (which is a 10 minute walk away) to swing on my favourite swing and listen to some new music I bought recently.

There's usually sheep here. If you follow the stone wall you reach this adorable little beach-y place (not great for swimming though also full of birds during summer). I usually go there to watch the fireworks during New Year's.

This is a beach called Nabben. Also yay! My fav swing was free!

Wee!

20-ish

Some kids came up and wanted to swing, so I headed back home and watched some TV with mom. She likes nature shows, so we watch a lot of nature shows. This here is from BBC Earth, but we have channels from Sweden, Finland and the US too. (Like Discovery and History Channel and such)

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Bearnaise sauce and fries are heavenly. I could eat that every day x)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It was the one thing I couldnt wait to eat when I returned. I told my friends it's like ranch dressing for us in the states.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Noooo D: Our precious island!

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I think this is my favourite one thus far! It is sweet and real. Now, I must Google Saft. OP "Just keep swinging, just keep swinging"

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Trevligt att höra från Åland!

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

What to do if you live an a boring place? I still wanna make one

9 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Make a short one? Probably still interesting for other folks to see what is normal for you, even if it's just your house and meals.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Make one! Even I wanna make one and I really have nothing fun to show. :D

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Your boring is someone else's relaxing, maybe even interesting. That's what's cool about these

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I live in OK, would that be interesting to anyone? Maybe people outside the US would find life in more rural parts of the US interesting.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, I wasn't going to make one at first because to me this is just everyday life. So what's boring to you might not be boring to others :)

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

What about living in a suburb of Boston and commuting into the city everyday? I don't think anyone would care about that lol

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well to me that sounds fascinating. I've never been to Boston, and I sure don't live in a big city x)

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I live in SLC, UT. Work in an office, and generally don't do much that is out of the ordinary. I still want to make one.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Then make one! :)

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Where is the IKEA?

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Very nice. Was day dreaming about having a swing by a beach the other day.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

All the fun stuff happens in the summer (especially late-ish July) so if you ever come here, try to come here around then :)

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I want to make a post about life on a very small island in nb Canada. Yes?

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Anyone want to see a day in the life of a US expat living in Sweden?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Sure :)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Åland is definitely on my "to visit" list. Tack för posten.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Saft is squash in English. The German word Saft translates directly as juice but I think here you refer to squash, like Ribena or Robinsons

9 years ago | Likes 81 Dislikes 2

Saft? I can dig it

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Squanch

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And in german, what he's drinking is called Sirup.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Was he mixing Sirup with Wasser? I thought he made a Schorle out of Saft and Wasser.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

From the look of it, it looked like sirup with water. But if it's calles saft in swedish it's probably just watered down juice=Schorle

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not lemonade?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The cherry cordial from The Witcher makes a lot more sense to me now... Thanks!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We call it diluted juice in Ireland.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Dilutin if your a culchie like me

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Squash fuels every British kids childhood. Robinsons is my jam.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

You guys have Kia Ora too?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yea. That's concentrated though.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

From my understanding it can also be called cordial, but it might be slightly posh.

9 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

You both have it right. Cordial is more middle class though

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In the US "cordial" is pretty much always tied to alcoholic drinks, maybe a kind of syrup? Sugary, thick liquid that you add to stuff?

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'm English but I never quite know what cordial is.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My undersyanding is basically a sugar syrup you add water to for slightly tastier water.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Cordial is thicker and more syrupy than squash. Also actually made of the ingredient rather than flavours/sweeteners/colourings.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks Lily

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's cordial in Australia and it's definitely not considered a posh term.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Yeah, everyday word out here....then I heard Cottee's went bust because everyone is a health nut now -.- Poor kids.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is nothing sacred? D:

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cordial in NZ too. It's just a concentrated sugary syrup. So 1 litre of it gets you 3 litres of juice type thing. Mostly call it juice tho.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Hyh, nice. Upvote for books on side table, and damn that drink looks amazing.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

There's at least a couple of hundred more books hidden to the left of the table. I have a lot of books ^^

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Never have enough books!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I live right across from Detroit in Canada. If a lot of people want to, I might make one of these.

9 years ago | Likes 510 Dislikes 11

Yes!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Question: could you see the fireworks a week or two ago next to the GM building? I was there but idk how close Canada is tbh

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lol. Canada is literally the other side of the river. Yes you can see the fireworks from the Renaissance Center in Windsor.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Make one?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm in Ottawa, Canada's Capital. I feel obliged to make such a post. But I won't, because my day is working from home and masturbating.

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

Hahah yeah I was seriously considering making a post like this but I think I would just depress myself

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mine would be awfully uninteresting. I work in a lab in a basement. It's not nearly as cool as it sounds.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do it.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had Lasik eye surgery in Windsor. 1996, before the FDA approved it in the US. LOL

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Now Pavel Datsyuk 'trust his eye to Dr. Rhamani. You shud too."

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Only if there isn't anything about bronies in it

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Looks like someone checked out my profile.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And there will be no brony stuff.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Super interested, 10-ish miles from downtown always wondered what life was like on the other side!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I live in Hamilton not tooo far from there. Windsor great place.....

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Woo! Windsor people on imgur.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Make sure to take pics of all the shawarma.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Will try :)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I live in a shithole in northeast WHYoming (but moving soon!), so anyplace else would be amazing to see! :3

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Getting over the ambassador bridge is a pain in the ass even with a passport. Did it once a month for years.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can you get some shots of giga-mutants?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Huh?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's Detroit so I joke it's like post apocalyptic

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ew. Windsor. I lived there, never again.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I saw a criminal minds episode of around your area

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

I lived in Windsor for six years. Is the Loop still there? In other words, yes, give us the tour.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I'm not sure.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

It closed maybe a year or two ago.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The loop is closed, I think it was reopened and redesigned. Last time I was home the loop crowd went to the room, villains or phog

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I live in Windsor. I guess it's still there but it's completely shit now!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sad face. I have fond memories of vomiting there.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

like Windsor? dude, sorry about that.

9 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 0

I know.

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

if its any consolation, i'm in KW and it also sucks ass

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That tunnel though

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I NEVER TAKE THAT DEMON SPAWN!

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Better than Detroit

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

that's like, 'oh, better than the foothilss of afghanistan'. Like, what could be worse than detroit?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Detroit's very sad. I actually was considering going down there and showing imgurians what it's really like since everyone seems to have (1)

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I agree. I think you should if you can. I'm too far from the border to make that feasible.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

there are already some fascinating articles online showing Detroit in ruins. I really wonder what will come of it? I hope for an 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Their own, very inaccurate assumptions of what it's really like.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2/2 artists commune/ paradise where cool people congregate and rebuild. but... it could just remain hole in the world

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That'd be neat :) I'd be interested, at least ^^

9 years ago | Likes 67 Dislikes 0

Brah don't make one of windsor, I went to uni there.. too many bad and now repressed memories..

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I don't have a phone, so the absoluet earliest I'll be able to make it is sometime in August,

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That's fine ^^ There's no hurry, all of these types of posts are so much fun.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

No you wouldn't. Windsor is a shithole. Might as well do one of these for Detroit.

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

Sadly, I can confirm that,

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As a Michigander, I'd still like to see a "day in the life of Detroit".

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I live in Oro-Medonte. 15 minutes north of Barrie. Should I make one?

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Sure.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I mean. Oro has nice lakes and is in the tip of cottage country. I'd say that's at the other end of the spectrum from Windsor.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I can confirm.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0
