Some of the rocks I picked up on today's walk!

Sep 21, 2023 2:38 AM

Wasn't planning on doing any rock picking today, which is stupid, cause I can't walk across the yard without picking up something. Probably would have come back with more, but I ran out of pocket space on my cargo pants

Not even 1% of what I wanted to grab today. I left some markers so I can find my way back later.

some of that looks like flint. try hitting a file with the edge of them, if it gives off good sparks you could sell it as a primitive fire kit.

It's mostly all chert, same family as flint. Chalcedony, like agate or Jasper, etc

Shit. I've only found 3 agates, one geode & 4 fossils in the past 10 years. Lot of hag stones, though. I'm planning a trip to AZ. Tucson area. Maybe next year. I want to see the cacti, sunsets & tarantulas, hopefully. Is there this kind of geology in that area?

There's plenty of cool shit to find in the Tucson area, from what I've read. I've only been in az for three years. I'm up in north east az and have only been poking around my property so far

More than a few look like chert. One of my favorites.

Yep! I'm lucky enough to have all different colors and clarities of chert on my property

I wouldn't be surprised if there was worked flint around there, and hopefully some arrowheads

I've been keeping an eye out, but haven't seen anything yet. I should be in prime area for it

Well, cargo pants, and I've been described as, 'cuddly' or rotund. So there's that.lol. also, by the time I was on my way back to the house, my britches were trying to come off.

lol. You should get a backpack for your rock finding adventures.

Totally should. Or a pack mule, like a real prospector. Lol
