I am in law school and I also work in public service. Unfortunately, the latter does not pay well, and the former does not pay at all, so I work a couple of different jobs, one of them being bartending at night. The place I work at has two bars, one on a roof and one on the ground floor. It’s a Saturday and its very busy, but things calm down downstairs and security has to hold the line for the roof. A group of four guys, all with British accents, all sit down. The leader of this group, a nice fellow with yellow shaded sunglasses who ends every sentence with “mate” orders 4 dark rum and cokes. I look up to these men, all who are clearly of age, and lock eyes with the second on my left.

Matt Smith is at my bar. The 11th Doctor is at my bar.

I serve them their drinks and carry on, trying to play it cool. They get about halfway through, and start talking about leaving. I’ve met a few celebrities is my time, and always try to keep my cool, but I love Dr. Who, and just can’t really top myself. “Matt,” I begin, “I wouldn’t forgive myself if I didn’t ask you for a quick photo.” I see him start to hesitate and he explains, “yea, sure, but we can’t get in upstairs.” I think that my bouncers didn’t know who Matt Smith was. But I did.

“Come on, let’s go up.” I tell them. All of a sudden the four of them just start yelling and cheering as I lead them to the elevator. “Get a picture, mate! Get a picture!” the guy in yellow shades screams. Matt happily grabs my shoulder. I’m speechless. I take them past security and up the elevator. There are mirrors in the elevator. Everyone has their phones out. “There are mirrors FUCKING everywhere!” yellow shades observes. Everyone has their phones out. They are cheering my name.

For a brief shining moment, I, not the Doctor, am the hero.

I take them past our second security and get them situated at a table. They thank me graciously again, and I proceed to go back down to my bar. Hour and a half later, on their way out, they come back and thank me again. The rest of the night, anyone that sits down at my bar, I ask “Do you watch Dr. Who???” They inevitably say no. I reply “Well if you did, I would have a story for you.” Which is why I wanted to tell you all.

So… your bar is bigger on the inside?

I wanna start watching doctor who but I don’t know how, I’ve already seen the first season.

My ex got me into the show a long time ago and while I've stopped watching it, Matt Smith was always my favorite of the bunch.

Oh no, he's actually kinda cute in normal wear. I did not expect this.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's amazing. Your are a lucky man.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't wanna be that guy but TECHNICALLY, he's the 12th Doctor. David Tennant used a regeneration to heal himself, not to change.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Not really. Its kindof philosophical tho. If he doesnt change but he brings himself back to life is he a new doctor?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Haha awesome - not all heroes have Sonic Screwdrivers!!

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Shoulda served up a fishsticks and custard, nonchalantly.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Nice one mate!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Dang he's even better looking in this than the show

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The Doctor is cool. Matt Smith, though? Not so much.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Agreed.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

why?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He used the fact that someone recognized him as a minor celebrity to get into a bar, and compensated him with a crappy picture

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's epic!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Honestly I'm the most jealous person ever right now.

8 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Wilfred is best companion.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I read that as The 11th Doctor, who drinks rum and coke.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Either way is correct. =)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wild Whovians are a rare find.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I have an exploding TARDIS skirt and an adipose tanktop...if there are Whovians where I go, they find me! :D

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have a Tardis wallet, I find all the whovian cashiers ????

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I'm extremely jealous. Like shit.. but seriously not enough people are aware of dr.who. I at least can say I've met Jack harknessa twice :/

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

"not enough people are aware of dr.who" You're joking, right?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No. 1 in 100 people (roughly obviously) I meet have even a clue what it is. Even less watch it. Not that it truly matters for me to enjoy it

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'd love that, he was around filming for Arrow but I didn't look for him, walked by his table at Fanexpo and got a wave hello, even then I

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fangirled pretty hard.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nice. I met him both times when I was working at uhaul and actually just remember I went to his garage sale once. Like 2 blocks from me

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Agreed

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Same! I would have a heart attack if I saw them!!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Tom Baker, David Tennant, Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi/Perter Troughton/William Hartnell, #3 (god the. Ames suddenly evade me)

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

As someone who started on the new stuff... Tom Baker is fucking awesome.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Same. The. I went back and was like holy shit yea. I love pertwee too though all of his companions were the worrrrst.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Honestly, looking back, all of the nuwho have been fantastic picks for the doctor thus far.

8 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 2

I have zero interest in a female doctor and won't watch until 14 unless that's a female then I'll watch at 15 and so on.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

k

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Seriously. They all bring something to the table but over all I have a couple favs.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I didn't like Capaldi at first, but after Clara left he got really good. The tower episode is incredible!

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

That's how it always is

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You mean after the companion leaves?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lets see what Jodie does

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm not watching hers. But despite being bi, im not a fan of women. I find most of them tedious. And I'm not a "let's make the doctor a

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Girl" bandwagon. I'd rather have worthwhile female companions rather than the joke they were in old who. I feel a female doctor would lend

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

too much to "let's make her a lesbian and forced her into a relationship or let's make her in love with a male companion and force that"

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

What kind of law do you want to practice? And why? I do a lot of Crim. D

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Right now the work I do is in election law.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

About 2 weeks ago there was a piece in the New York Times about open source election software being the only way to go. True?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Not in my opinion. Next 10 years should be digital but entirely offline until we get security under control.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fundamentally feel this is a lack of your understanding on how online security works. Open source your best chance at security.
