That steak is so marbled the Greek could build with it.

I saw this on the menu at a pub today! (England) didn't want to order it because it was twice the price of everything else

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But is it as good as dog steak? Or long-pig steak?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

the marbles

8 years ago | Likes 83 Dislikes 3

Personally, I prefer my steak a little less fatty. I understand why it's more expensive, and I enjoyed the novelty, but it's not for me.

I've been to the Mayura Wagyu feedlot! They feed the cattle chocolate candy!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

They sell Wagyu beef at McDonald’s. It’s really not that hard to come by. Just a cow from Japan. Not a specific cow or meat.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just wait for someone to compare it to a hoofless horse

8 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Someone did that just an hour after you commented.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Why would someone do that ?

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

oh you cunt

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Looks terrible. Just being honest.

Had some raw wagyu at a fancy steakhouse last year. Was in starters section but cost as much as an entree. Was probably 2 bites. Was amazing

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I live in Japan. Recognized this immediately. Stuff literally melts in your mouth. Should be illegal.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I live in Australia. Recognised it immediately. Wagyu beef is not only available in Japan.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

I'm glad you said it first

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Oh, thank God. I thought I had lost them but they were right here

8 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 4

All along.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Err... not a huge fan of all that fat in there. Yeah, that's probably going to be not popular.

8 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 6

I'm with you. Give me a tenderloin any day over this fatty stuff.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Right there with you. I can't stand marbled cuts like ribeyes. Probably also why I dislike bacon so much. :S

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

I'll trade you my share of lean steaks for your share of marbled ones. :9

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Proper bacon isn't streaky, even better!

A5 Wagyu truly is incomparable to American beef. It's heavenly. Esp paired with wasabi and garlic chips. Don't knock it til youve tried it.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Also for those that do want to try it, don't get Kobe beef. It's overpriced. Try a cut of Akita beef or another reputable breed instead.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Had both Akita and Kobe A5 sirloin and the taste was almost indistinguishable. If anything, I thought Akita beef tasted better.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

what do the cows look like?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Frikkin adorable. I'll try to post a few pictures of the calves I work with when I get back to my computer.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They literally hand massage the cow while its alive

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

No they literally do not.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This will be unpopular, but it’s a bit too much fat for me. But I’m not a big steak lover so....

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 5

Most of that fat is going to more-or-less disappear during the cooking process; even when it's done medium-rare, the fat renders between all

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

those layers of muscle, which suffuses the whole thing with flavor as well as breaking down structurally to make -very- tender meat.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Perfection!

Mayura's wagyu cattle are fed Cadbury's chocolate, cookies, and candy, approximately two kilos a day. Costs about $300 a pound.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I sure hope Cadbury's over there is better than here in the US. It's maybe a step above Hershey's.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well Mayura's is Australian so I think its the same. But you realize the cows are eating it? It's not chocolate flavored or anything

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, but the company clearly thinks feeding them chocolate is beneficial, so why a premium priced shitty chocolate?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It has to do with calories, they experiment with different things like beer, limestone, and forced vitamin deficiencies to fatten them up

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If I had to guess they probably get reject bins from the factory so not concerned with retail price.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That would make a lot more sense than what I was thinking.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is the wagyu beef industry heavily marketing on imgur or what's up with all these meat posts on the FP recently?

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

If you had a wagyu filet you'd understand.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Wagyu is amazing.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Some people feel insecure about their meat-eating because of vegans, so they make posts like these to get reassurance that it's okay.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 5

Who the hell put that magic on a skewer?!

8 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 4

My horrified thoughts too!

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Maybe they are putting the trimmings to good use...

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

They grill it on Spears traditionally:)

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

They are grilling it like that directly over charcoal I think. Just watched a video about it recently.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The same guy that washes it down with an 18 year old scotch and coke

8 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Or like my mom, with orange juice.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ugh... 18 year old coke must be terrible.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Okay. That made me chuckle. +1

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I spent a 30k loan on college, should've bought a pound of this steak

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You would’ve still had $29,986 left for college.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A pound of that steak is more than $100 and requires travel to Japan lol

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It isn’t made of gold. It isn’t exclusive to Japan. Wagyu beef is available in the US, Canada, the UK and Australia.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

It is not the same, may look the same, it's not taken care of or taste the same. Most the stuff called Wagyu in other countries isn't.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wagyu is a type of cow. So it is the same. Most wagyu beef that people consume from around the world comes from Australia.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Every time I see waygu it reminds me of that disturbing picture of the horse hoof with the outer part gone.

8 years ago | Likes 83 Dislikes 8

You are fucking high.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I fuckin knew it was gonna be there, didn't want to see it, and I looked anyway.

I really hope that horse is dead - the clean color of the blood doesn't comfort me though. That must me terribly painful. What happened?

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The horse is dead. Medical cadaver.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

It died and then someone removed the hoof

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Possibly laminitis but the foot doesnt look troubled enough. Maybe just a veterinary photo.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

It’s just a cadaver

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I had some once in Japan. Very hard to come by. Best damn thing I ever put in my mouth hole. Also one of the most expensive.

8 years ago | Likes 630 Dislikes 12

Besides that after dinner hooker, of course.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

We served Wagyu sirloins at my restaurant for a week or so as one of our specials

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Put some eyeholes in your mouthhole!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Damn it... There is 420 upvotes. Sorry but I can't.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Husband is a butcher, love this but dry aged is the bomb and so much nicer flavour

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I like to just do a good ribeye and salt it for 1 - 2 hours then clean it off and grill is fantastic and decently cheap.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had some once and it made me violently I'll for 2 days

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Wagyu isn't that hard to come by in Japan. I had Akita, Yamagata & the famous Kobe beef. Many places offer it at at many price ranges.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

tbh it looks like it's so fatty you' feel like you were just eating fat.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 9

The fat = cancer

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 7

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

the fat melts out and makes the rest so tender...*drools*

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

You hardly need to chew.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I’ve also had some. Absolutely amazing. But I’m partial to Hawaiian beef given it’s so much cheaper and so damn beefy

8 years ago | Likes 60 Dislikes 1

Ooo, I'll have to see If I can get it in California :D

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

different opinion here. i felt it was not that good to justify such higher price. I'd rather eat dry aged steak than wagyu beef

Depending on whether you got high end wagyu or low end Kobe makes a difference. Some regular wagyu tastes better than Kobe.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

But I prefer fatter steaks so it might just be me

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Too bad, you must have had a crappy cut. A Wagyu filet is ludicrously better than your average filet.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I ate Kobe beef in Kobe and it was sooooo good. I loved it, not so expensive in my memory (40€ for 240gr).

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 3

240gr? I load that in my 300 win mag baby

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Then it wasn't beef from Kobe. There is far more Kobe-beef sold, then beef produced in Kobe.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 20

t varies depending on fat%A-B scale, 4-5 grading scale(overall quality) and BMS (Beef marble scale)6-12. Kobe pricerange $100-$4000/kg store

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Though I get some downvotes here :) 3-4k animal qualify as Kobe-cattle, and just a small % gets exported. Now: it there seems licensed

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Production outside JP. As such adjusted to economics and US taste. Whether that counts as Kobe or not, is an opinion matter.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It was. I had a plate with several very small different cuts from good to very good. They served (i can't afford it) cuts at ~400€/300gr.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Ah .. that's a number I have heard. .. Sadly Kobe-beef is not trademarked.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 9

Trademarked since 1983

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

MFW reading that comment and thinking if to make the joke.

8 years ago | Likes 183 Dislikes 2

"thinking if to make" - I think the words you're looking for is "considering making", hth!
