Hard to do any work when half the population wants to tear it all down to spite the brown people that might use it, and the other half think you can debate and vote away an entrenched ideology that calls for the literal extermination of those they deem lesser. They both also view any and all criticism of the systems that perpetuate this sisyphian hell as a personal attack due to rampant tribalism and lack of reading comprehension. That’s why it’s important to go outside for your mental health. Walk near a lake, drive to the mountains, or even near a busy street if there’s not much nature around where you live. I love knowing I could easily fall off a mountain and crack my head open or drown in a lake. Makes breathing easier.

Also a software engineer. It took 6 months for me to land something. 2800 applications that yielded 11 recruiter calls. Those recruiter calls turned into 9 interview processes and eventually 3 offers. Breaking through the AI ATS hiring wall is tough.

Have you looked into staffing agencies? Their whole job is to customize your resume to look good and hit the buzzwords that get you an interview. It's all contract work but if the place likes you they may hire you full time, early too. I got laid off a few years back and a staffing agency got me a new job in under a month, and the place hired me full time 3 more months later, making $10/hr more than my last job

youre the product, as the saying goes. they pay you the same no matter the job, they take the difference. the company can skip rules and fees for employees as you are contracted to them. its great for when employees will be out for months or more. youll go in, do the job and they can buy you out from the agency, let your contact expire or let you go.

Nothing. The whole way it works is that you're basically working for someone or a company *through* the staffing agency, i logged my hoursbwith the staffing agency and they paid me while the company inwas doing work for paid the staffing agency

Like others are saying, typically they hire you out for i.e. 13/h but they charge the company 19/h. Some companies can be cool and buyout your contract and just make you an employee, or default on the length of the contract and pull you in. A lot of times though, they'll pull you in at a rate between what they paid and what you got, so they don't keep paying extra. They recoup some money from the temp cost but you're happy making more, without knowing. However your foots in the door.

I've worked with a few staffing agencies in the past, and none of them ever charged me a dime. The catch is that working through a staffing agency will earn you less, because they take a cut of what you earn. The company pays the agency, the agency takes a percentage, and you get the rest.

Also make sure to exhaust your leads locally from any former coworkers or friends that may be hiring. What you really don't want to do is end up at the same company you could have been directly hired at and lose out on benefits for yourself and a headhunter bonus for your friend.

You can easily be replaced by AI when there is a general misbelief of what AI is capable of and a stubborn management system who refuse to accept that they made a mistake in judgement. They do layoffs and will double down when it fails.
