I used to the neighbour's house to print because they had a COLOUR printer! Also phone ringing when you just got on and getting bumped off!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Woohoo... My 38th busy signal!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

One of the most irritating noises aswell as the wait I always lost patience

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The interruption to the fapping while waiting for the next pic to load was excruciating!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That reminds me I need to feed my neopet

*Forgets to turn volume down* WELCOME YOU GOT MAIL!!

Sound was the best. Thanks to Jamba you could have your ringtone like this.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

the horn of shame at 1am

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Eh back then there wasn't really anything good on the Internet anyway

I am making this comment via FTP to an address I heard on mIRC in a channel I read about on a phpBB.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ah, so glad they improved it, alot. Those things took forever

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Pretty sure this is satire

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I'm sure it is, but I'm also sure there are plenty of people now that don't know why the save button looks like that

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So many hours spent on IRC while waiting for files to download at a couple of kbytes/s

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

IRC, the multiplayer notepad.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also, getting to "insert disc 43 of 47" and realizing you can't find it.

9 years ago | Likes 104 Dislikes 0

Ugg. And spending all weekend watching it

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I remember installing Windows from discs, missing last one. Turns out I'd left it on my dad's car under sunlight and it was melting.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Oh the pain!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ahhhh Disks, i would have loved disks!!!! i remember the cassette recorder plugged into comp, and the volume control doing nothing.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

and then you do!!!!! but then you get a read/write error and you hear the distant laughter of the damaged sector-fairy

9 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Once went a tiny bit crazy and ripped the cords out of my speakers when I attempted to connect for 5 minutes...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

19.2k...better try again for that sweet 28.8

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's 2am and you want to sneak on to check a BBS for new posts... let me sing you the song of my people. *screeeeeee*

Kroooooooo...krrsssshhhh...toing.do.toi.doiiing..boop

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

This is literally my ring tone

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I remember it being more like "Dee de deee? bee bee beeEEEEEEEEEkrsssssshhhhh bwaaAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRGHHHHKRSSSSSSSSHHHHHH" for 56k anyway.

9 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

I think it's so fucking cool to be able to "hear" the internet on the old dial up days. Really pushed me for my networking degree in schokl

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This. This is why I cut the wire to the speaker on the modem.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

I thought the sound was analog, generated from the hardware itself, not a digital audio signal.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

My modem was for an ISA slot and it had a big, black, round speaker on it. I snipped one of the wires, assuming it was just like 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The old PC speakers you plugged into the motherboard. It worked. No more dialup or handshake sound.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We never had any sort of working speaker and we still got the sound.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The real connoisseurs found out how to mute the modem.

9 years ago | Likes 73 Dislikes 0

To hell with that. ATL3. Jack tje sound barrier, bring thr noise.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Bless you, AT M0 command.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

THIS. MUCH MUCH THIS.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

setting m0 was your friend :)

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Hang up the phone, I may got connected!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I just really miss AIM hahaha

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I remember all those "free internet for Life" offers... What were they thinking?

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I wish I could have been in the room when NetZero realized they had to cancel their "Shouldn't internet be free?" ads and start charging.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

4 years ago, NetZero still had 3/4 million on dialup.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

4 years ago my ISP finished full fiber to home network (only 20down/1up for basic, now 60/3).. couldnt imagine still being stuck with dialup

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Considering a staggeringly vast majority of the planet probably hasn't touched a computer, *shrug*

https://www.dialupso">und.com/">https://www.dialupsound.com/ http://www.56k-emulator.co.uk/ The good old days... Glad that shit's over.

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Awesome.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

THANKS!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ahhhh memories

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It'd be slower today then it was back then tho because of the massive amount of shit to load that weren't on pages back then.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

56K? That's highspeed - I started out with a 300 baud wedge modem on a commodore 64

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

waiting for the ASCII art boobs to draw (on the plus side, the connect sounds were a pretty chord, not static)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We'll say the same about cable soon enough.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Shut the fuck up we all know there was nothing good about waiting hours for a pic of tits to load and then halfway someone pics up the phone

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

There was a certain thrill to it... Starting to load, getting closer, nearly done... But that is just nostalgia speaking

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That thrill, its called blue balls and it is unhealthy

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

We used to wait 20 minutes for one still image. Now we ignore ads with actual sex acts looping in HD.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I remember my first 28.8 baud man that thing was smoking fast. Although I think I upgraded before i started playing C&C and Warcraft online

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

ONE VISION, ONE PURPOSE!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

God damn those video's were awesome. KANE LIVES!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*roaring cheers*

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

When I started out, the limit was 110 baud. I was amazed when 300 baud finally came out.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

God I don't remember the real early days to much. I recall an Apple IIe and playing Pole Position on my atari.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"Dude! You got ISDN? SWEEET!", he types on his 110/20mbit cable & a computer, whose integrated audio chip is faster than the CPUs back then.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I tested out Cable Internet in my area when I was middleschool/freshman. Wasn't for sale I was part of the test market, I was god.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No one was on it. Just a few of us who got lucky and chosen. I immediately became a dump site for a warez group. So many cd's....

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I remember the first 20 gig hard drive I bought for over 200 bucks. It was epic and cut down on the hundreds of burned cds..

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It pains me to look at my purchase history of an online store I use - a 40GB HDD in 2002, $150... :D

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Those were the days. Now I feel old!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I remember throwing a shitfit when we started to switch to URLs. "Why do we have to memorize that, when we can just key in an IPA?"

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I remember seeing some billboards and TV ads with "visit us online! (IP)" and thinking "we need to spell phone numbers, dude."

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No way we were going to remember a bunch of IP addresses when we needed help with 1-800-222-3334

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You lost me there buddy. Lol!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Once upon a time, when you wanted to go to www.imgur.com, you would type 199.27.76.193.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Interesting. I don't remember that.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, obviously that particular example didn't exist twenty years ago. I don't remember when the push for URL started.
