Bernie was up against the entire DNC. He did try to make deals. Its just the people he was trying to make deals with were opportunistic and unscrupulous, and didn't want an honest arrangement. He only had a chance of winning if the rest of the Dem primary numbers were split. They solved that problem. It also hurts that Obama was making calls to other campaigns ahead of Super Tuesday after Bernie's four state win streak, asking them to drop out to rally behind Biden to stop Bernie.

If Buttigieg (or Newsom) has a shot at getting in where others don't, then we'll take it - but once we do, we start looking for the next step. We either convince them to be better, or replace them with someone who is.

Only after Stonewall, and after migrants were a significant groups which were a safe blue vote. Democratic centrist gave a shit about LGBQT+ people before it was a safe blue vote. Progressive were the first politicians who helped them, Milk was progressive himself, changing slowly the dem party. Same game by migrants, centrist thought migrants were a safe vote, ignored their interests and Trump got 2/3 of hispanic voters.
