There are a lot of supposed eco-friendly watches out there, but this new startup is one that actually gives back. A buddy of mine named Abdol recently graduated from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, with a Major in Urban Planning & Design and an intense focus on Environmental Sustainability. He had a great idea to start an initiative to design, manufacture, and promote sustainability through his amazing watch designs. Not only are these things slick, but each one sold ensures that a tree is planted in Canada and maintained for 5-years.

He is currently in discussions with the largest tree planting organization in Canada called Tree Canada for a partnership and they absolutely loved the idea.

He currently has two sizes and plans on making a few other designs with enough feedback or requests. The wood itself is Maple Wood & is certified to only come from suppliers evaluated by the Forest Stewardship Council. He basically wants to ensure that the wood is always ethically sourced so that it always comes from forests that are evaluated to meet FSC’s strict environmental and social standards. He is even looking into finding a trusted source for recycled wood to use in future designs. In his opinion there's no point in making something that is harmful to the environment and is fierce about environmental sustainability.

Personally, i'm allergic to Nickel and I get really bad reactions on my skin, even with basic jewellery, so when he brought in a few examples to show me I fell in love with the concept. The humble design & the eco cause is what really sold me though.

If you wanna check it out, head to Barkskin.ca or e-mail Abdol through the website. He is open to creating more distinct time-pieces in the future so any suggestions are welcome. There's currently a discount for early-buyers as he just launched the site yesterday. Links below:

Q: What did the second hand say to the hour hand as it passed by? A: See you again in a minute! (I'll see myself out now)
