There has been major labour disputes between Canada post and the goverment the past couple of weeks. The goverment forced them back to work but other unions have protested outside shipping facilities as a response. This has caused massive mail and package backlog. If shipping internationally to canada shipping times are estimated to be around 1 month. Plus domestic packages are supposed to arrive after Christmas. If you are shipping out or into canada use fed EX or UPS.

Tl:dr. If you are shipping into or out of canada don't use Canada post use UPS Or fed-ex instead.

Thank you kind stranger

addendum: Look into the customs duties and tax rates for the item you are sending and make sure it is properly declared. All the courier

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

companies really rape you on the brokerage fees if they can.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or UPS!

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The back log is from the 6 weeks of rotating strikes, not because of the government intervention which was just last tuesday

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Canda Post might be bad, but just use the Canada Post instead, they give that extra "A".

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's worth noting that the timing is unfortunate, but CUPW had been negotiating with CP since august last year and contract expired in Jan

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Some of us don't have any other option.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks for reminding us! I'll look into alternative shipping method.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

And don't do USPS, etc, because in Canada it goes through Canada Post. Use FedEx or UPS

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My studio type headphones has been delayed in Cali for a week now.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks for the heads up!

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same with our local USPS in Southern California

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It took 6 weeks to get my gram of weed through the mail. (I framed it.)

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think depends where a package is coming from or going I ordered stuff on Black Friday and have already received it via Canada Post.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Did they send out the info for secret Santa yet? I Haven't gotten my person yet.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No I think we get our matches tomorrow

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Monday

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also, don't be a dick: Pay the extra few bucks for the shipping that includes brokerage fees on the far end.

7 years ago | Likes 102 Dislikes 5

I had no idea about that. Thanks for the advice.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

That is also true.

7 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Wtf is a brokerage fee

7 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 2

The fee you pay the broker to process your customs papers. Most people don't know they can do the paperwork themselves.

7 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

I've shipped two things to America and both times I've never had the other end tell me they had to pay

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I guess I've never shipped anything abroad before

7 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

So, customs charges?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No, fee to have them fill out, file, and process your customs paperwork for you. You'll still owe duty and other taxes.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

All my stuff has been acceptably on time. Fed Ex and UPS are shit and wreck most of what I send or receive.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It has been making this christmas crazy stressful. Some sites don't tell you they use CP Like Amazon even their express was Canada post.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I thought they got ordered back to work?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They did, but other unions have "decided" the order was illegal and are interfering. Apparently they all have constitutional law degrees

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As a union member (BCGEU), I get that. Luckily I shipped purolator for my SS.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Amazon prime in Canada must suck?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Where I live in Canada yes. My Prime account express shipping takes about week most often.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This year I was too poor to participate. Next year I'm going to make at least one person very happy :)

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Rip shipping costs, non-USPS intl shipping is some wack shit.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Strike is over as of last Monday

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

That's what I thought, they got ordered back to work.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Their right to strike got trampled on

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I am from Quebec and can confirm this. We haven’t been getting mail for the past month or so.

7 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 2

alberta here. i got a package like 4 days early and it came out of ontario.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Da fuq!!?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Quebec here too. Some weeks are fine others, no mail. Mostly we've been receiving.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Northern Quebec here, we don't have a lot of other options except for Canada Post. Haven't gotten packages since about Halloween.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The North & other remote areas are really held hostage by Can. Post. It should be considered an essential service. Hope you get soon :)

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

@op I had commissioned a carving from someone in Canada that should have arrived over a month ago. Would this be why?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The strikes have been going on the past month so it is possible that the carving got held up at the begining of the whole ordeal.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Quite possible. I don't know how the rotating strikes have affected international deliveries...

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why does every single nation I know of have that one shitty postal service that clearly should not exist?

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

you mean, the national post service of that nation?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

To be fair, Canada Post is awesome 99% of the time. The last rotating strikes was 7 years ago, and 21 years ago for the strike before that.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

In Finland postal service is mainly a monopoly. Worked fine when it was part of government. Then it was turned to profitable company.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

After that they kicked people out, mail was delayed a little, and service started to get worse.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's not a shitty postal service it's amazing, they're on strike because of wage disputes that mainly effect women only

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In Sweden the good ole Post suddenly was PostNord, a collaboration with the danes. Problem was that nobody checked to see if the danish /2

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

made any money...which they didn't. When the merge happened they was BILLIONS in the red, which we ordinary people had to pay. And now /3

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

there's talk about only delivering mail every third day or so, because they can't turn a profit, even if they have a monopoly. Thats sad.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

When I signed up for Secret Santa they would not let me choose international because of the dispute (I'm Canadian)

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's strange. I am from canada and i chose International. Maybe its just some parts of canada where you weren't allowed to do that.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I chose international at first. Changed my mind. Went to change it again and it said I couldn't

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Maybe they had too many international matches and capped it. Other then that i see no reason why that happened

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The reason it gave on the bottom of the screen was because of the postal strike... /1

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm thinking that maybe imgur didn't know about the shitstorm up here until after signups started

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We have Canada Post on strike, a city under major construction everywhere, AND our liquor stores were on strike. People are getting surly...

7 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 1

Not the liquor stores!!!

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No worries for me, my supplies are fine...

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

When Canadians get upset, it's about to go down.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

And those cantabis store just cant stay stocked up!

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

You must be from Montreal! Hello from behind the orange cones!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Soon they'll stop apologising for other people's mistakes

7 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Lets not get hasty

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Liquor? But I barely know her!

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

To liquor is to know 'er...

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This must be provincial because there were no liquor strikes in BC

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Quebec

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Of course it's provincial, all liquor is regulated by the provinces. There is no nationally-run liquor store.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Thanks champ I’m aware, just didn’t know which province

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sorry, didn't mean to sound snippy! Have a lovely day :)

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It’s ok, you too

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There's no need to get surly.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Hello other Montrealer ?

7 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Yep. This is us now.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lol! Hello. Funny how I didn't need to say much for you to know where I'm from :) v

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Strike for what? Find a new job if you cant make do. Since when does society owe us stable jobs with preferable hours and pay?

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 34

It's a government job though...

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Since the point government was formed, because it's job is to take care of it's citizens

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

It's to protect its citizens from threats and stay out of their lives otherwise. It's an individual's job to

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

Take care of themselves.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Can’t tell if you are being sarcastic or not...

7 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

Just being an intentional unpopular ass

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

You'd make a great pinkerton!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Gotta earn that shit.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 20

why should I have to earn my shit... the govmnt should provide....earning my own shit is hard...

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Apparently legalizing pot had an opposite effect on Canadians than expected.

7 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 3

99 percent of Canadians get legal pot through the mail. Online orders. Canada Post fucked that up for everyone including me.

7 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

Lol at 99%. Not remotely close to that many have bought legal pot, and a lot who have used brick and mortar retail stores.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or still use there guy

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The closest store for me is halfway across my province. A good 6 hours drive, speeding with no pee breaks. So lots get it in the mail

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And CP went on strike almost exactly when weed was legalized. So millions of orders got delayed. Intentionally.

7 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 5

It's unfortunate, but the workers had been without a contract since January

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Historically CP will only strike during holiday season as that's when it's most effective, pot has nothing to do with it.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ok Ron..

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

So if we use Canada Post, it will be... Postponed.....

7 years ago | Likes 358 Dislikes 5

YEEEAAAHHHHHHH

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Postpwned

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It still arrives, just send it like 4 days in adva ce

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Been waiting on packages for over a week now. That is a big nope. Tracking says "delayed due to natural disaster"

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

until they figure out stuff with their union, yes, might even go into next year, depends on how long they take

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

EDIT: JUST RELISED IT WAS A PUN

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

There ya go bud

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lol

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wait, I don't get it -- how does a country just fuck up it's postal service? "Oh you were planning on sending & receiving gifts? No."

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

They privatise it and sell the shares to their mates then right after the sale watch the value bottom out completely (UK)

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Easy - Make union contracts based on work requirements from more than a decade ago, then refuse to change based on changing workloads.
