Please vote people, you need to get these assholes out of office ASAP.

Depends on where you live. https://ballotpedia.org/State_by_State_Provisional_Ballot_Laws If voting worked we wouldn't have these problems.

This, postal service, delay. I have to say, these are concerns one would expect from a 3rd world dictatorship.

You don't have to yell it though and you don't have to be rude. "May I please vote with a provisional ballot?" is all it takes.

In my county, we never denied someone a ballot and would proactively offer a provisional ballot, and also offer to help them with the form.

How is this even a subject that needs to be discussed in USA? It’s so clear that the country is not something to strive to be anymore.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Pro Tip: in some states, there are databases, which poll workers can immediately access, that list your current polling location.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

States frequently change the boundaries of polling districts to cope with shifts in population. Avoids super large, unmanageable polls.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

At any rate, check your polling location NOW. Provisional ballots aren’t counted until after all returns are in AND only if it’s tight race.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

When did it get so hard to vote. I just walk over to my kid's school on voting day with a paper I am mailed or a valid ID. put an X and go

Some places in the US can have hours-long waits, and some places are purging voter rolls, which has a habit of un-registering living, active

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

voters without informing them.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Seems like a lot of older systems need to be re thought

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My grandmother born 1907 she would walk through a blizzard to vote. Even when she was in her 80's. She knew the importance of voting

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

She always told me her vote was one of the most precious things as her mother didn't have the right.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Related question. If you request a mail in ballot, must you use it or can you change your mind and vote at your polling place?

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Why not both? oh, wait

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why don't you ask your local voter registrar? This is their job! If you don't know who that is, vote.org can help!!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks, I will consult with them as the election draws near

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They are terrific, so get on that as soon as possible. Get your registration squared away and then put the GOP back where they belong.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is dependent on state, do not rely on this! do the legwork.

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Didn't it come out last election that provisionals are only tallied in event of a recount or something?

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It depends on the state. Generally speaking, no, every ballot is always counted. The press just doesn't wait that long to announce a winner

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

For example in some places a voter has until that Friday to "cure" some kinds of provisionals. A winner will have been announced already.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Or even the Monday after. Election results aren't real for typically about a month after election day.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've never voted in person. Do I have to go to a specific location?

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

(in California) No but at any location besides "your" polling place, it's a "provisional" vote and has to be processed by hand, very slowly.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes, you should have gotten the polling place’s information when you registered to vote.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You can check where to go at vote.org to find your location.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

What does that have to do with this?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

It's not up for debate anymore. California census counted illegals and is getting more representation at the federal level because of it.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Did counting them give them the right to vote?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes! We need be prepared to deal with Republican fuckery, not just hope for the best. They’re counting on you not knowing your rights.

5 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 7

As if this doesn’t happen in every election? It’s not partisan

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Tell me, when was the last time a Democrat was calling for an election to be postponed for maybe years like Trump is now?

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Your broad statement was ‘Republican fuckery’ regarding elections. I’m saying it’s not just one side.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Point to where he says years. When was the last time a politician tampered with mail in ballots, oh ya this year and a number were democrats

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Doesn’t even come remotely close. Can you try again or is this the best you’ve got?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How can you not be on the register? Seriously asking.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

(1/2) Serious answer: if you're somewhere other than the polling place for your address, you initially won't show up in the search.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

(2/2) Literally if your polling place is the room next door, you have to widen the search. If it searched the entire US it would crash.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you fail to register in time, you're not automatically registered

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I got caught up in this last time. Some areas where there is a lot of people coming and going purge the rolls every so often 1/2

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

So you could find yourself not listed in their registry. I got a provisional ballot and did that. Had lived there 10+ years same address.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

In the Netherlands you need to register if you want to vote outside your hometown. If you fail to do that in time, you can't.

Agreed! Register and vote absentee ballot if you don’t want to go in person. Provisional ballots are not always counted FYI.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

So if you vote outside of the state you are registered in, it doesn't count?

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Typically you won't be allowed to vote if you're outside your state. Some states allow you to register at a new address on election day

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And presidential elections are special. There are some circumstances where you can end up "in-between" states. If that happens you can get

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Let's start a movement of people to volunteer to work the polls. It's a paying job in a lot of states

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It’s a great idea but the deployment of poll workers is up to the ruling party of the state. This is largely why you see lines in cities.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Look up Georgia and Wisconsin in the 2016 election. Total shit show on purpose.

NOT TRUE. It has to be POSTMARKED by election day, not rec'd by election day. We've been doing this in Washington State for over a decade

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Why does it have to be the dems?

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

Last i checked, it wasnt the republicans who thought minorities were too incompetent and poor to go to a DMV

Not incompetent; underserviced. DMVs are not in every community, and the hours of those that are may not be conducive to people working (1)

The actual argument is that it should be free to vote. If the ID isn't free, voting isn't free. Most people equate ID with drivers license >

The problem with voter registration ID is it becomes like a tax to vote. Some of these states aren't just allowing you to use any government

“...a tax to vote”? What a cliche. Most, if not all, states accept government documents with your name/address or a birth certificate.

Issued ID. They want people to register, pay for a voter ID. Then they regularly purge registration rolls of people living in certain

Districts. Then tax them to get new IDs every election.

Aren't their names taken, even without an ID? Also, voting twice can lead to a world of pain, if discovered. Not sure anyone would risk it.

Well if they're using other people's names, not a big deal.

Technically you're right

In Germany we get a registration slip with the mail. Does the US have anything like that?

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Our state of Oregon is that way. And a couple others.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

We get one confirming we are registered, at least we're I live. I don't think we get one asking to register. I make sure to register early.

We can't use it as ID in Iowa iirc, but we get a registration slip confirming our registration location

I never needed ID, they usually just believe me that the registration slip is mine. But I vote in a village and they usually know me.

It's not an ID itself that is illegal, it's requiring a form of paid ID like a driver's license. If there was just a state issued ID

Americans don't have an ID card? Wtf

Serious question, how do people who have ZERO form of ID function in everyday life where an ID is required?

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

They just use cash. Another example is students who may have nothing besides a student ID. Student IDs tend to get targeted by voter ID /1

Yeah. For example, my only two pieces of photo ID are my Ontario health card and my passport from when I was 18. Passport is invalid because

Too old, and you gotta pay here to keep it active. My Ontario Health Card expires every 5 or so years, last time I had 0 legit ID to prove

There are state issued IDs, not only DL..

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Not every state allows you to use any government issued ID. They make constituents purchase a new ID. And if you don't have other forms of

I'm my state those are also paid for, which was the point they brought up.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Everyone got for free then it'd be fine. But if that doesn't exist requiring a DL is a form of poll tax and would lose in court

5 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 3

At least in oregon since '16 you are registered to vote when you get a DL. =]

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That’s why Texas has a free voter ID option https://www.dps.texas.gov/driverlicense/electionid.htm

You'd think so, but the new poll tax in Florida was upheld
