Denver Chalk Art Festival- June 2016

1 person, 2 hands, 3 days, 4 interviews, 5 fingers rubbed raw, 6 nights in Colorado, 7 boxes of chalk, & an 8 ft.x 8ft. chalk drawing!
This was my first out of state chalk festival & the largest piece I've ever done! It took me a total of 20 hours to complete. I'm self taught & learn something new every time.  Such a magical experience!

Day 2 was the longest and hottest day.. 12 hours in the sun (thank god for big floppy hats!)

The festival was attended by over 200,000 people.. talk about sensory overload for an introverted artist. :O

I'm not gonna lie, getting covered in chalk is one of my favorite parts.. it makes me feel like a kid again!

The finished product!

"Galactic Equilibrium"

The chalk drawing was based off of an original acrylic painting I created!  This painting is currently on display at the Barrett Art Center in New York.

Its pretty tight. Saw it last year while I was there to see U2 and smoke spj's. Twas great until the flash rainstorms washed it all away.

You are beautiful! I'd draw with you anytime! Not sexually, I mean hell ya, but no I mean like literally. Side walk chalk is the bee's knees

Did you get sunburned? I feel like you would have gotten sunburned doing this.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Luckily no! I owe it all to SPF 30. Although, I did almost get heat stroke at one point. Lol

The crystal makes me Spazz I wish my town had something like this instead of an art walk :/

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Huh. Reminds me of the Drake Relays

Love the concept: butterfly as elephant ears with crystals as a bindi. I like the big healthy tusks. There's a lot of spirit energy in this.

I don't know art. But I'm pretty sure this is it.

Art is defined by the artist. Everything else is interpretation.

What made you choose the name? Beautiful art btw

The piece is a representation of how the vastness of the Universe balances out all earthly creatures, regardless of size. Thanks!

@OP I would pay to have this as a print for my home!

I built a flower out of pipe cleaners today, but this is pretty cool too I suppose.

One time, I made flowers for my wife with rolled up paper for stems and colorful package bows. She saved them for a few years even.

No creative endeavor is too small!

If I had the chance to climb into a tub of chalk naked. I would. Ground up of course, otherwise what's the point.

Reminds me of Bob's Burgers. Your art is great by the way!

I got so excited over the chalk episode.. Even though Linda wasn't a fan.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Haha, by the end she enjoyed it, if I remember correctly. ^-^

Cool, but the first gif makes it look like you drew it with your butt.

9 years ago | Likes 91 Dislikes 0

I was thinking she was clenching the chalk a little more forward of that.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

thank god i'm not the only one who thought that.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Now THAT would be talent..

Don't let your dreams be dreams

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

It was a really cool piece of art as well. How long will it last? I assume they don't just clean it up when the exhibition ends.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Every festival is different. Usually they just leave it there and let weather take care of it.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But since this one was on the actual street, they did end up pressure washing it away.

That's kind of sad. I'd make a comment about our fleeting existence, but I would hate to see my work go down the drain.
