Gerhard Haderer (born 1951 in Leonding, Austria) is an Austrian cartoonist and caricaturist.

Since 1991 his work has appeared regularly in Germany’s "Stern" magazine as “Haderers Wochenschau” ("Haderers weekly news"). From 1997 to 2000, and from 2008 he published his own monthly satirical comics magazine called Moff". He has produced designs for several satirical puppet shows.

Honestly, I don’t even understand what he’s attacking in that one... Being fit?

Honestly feels like im14andthisisdeep stuff but for boomers, it's satire but so conventional.

Ok boomer

5 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 3

These reveal a scared old man terrified of technology and the new. Centuries before he'd have bemoaned paper replacing slate

5 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 3

He'd have been right too.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Technology bad. Lol. These are such try hard bullshit. Look up reading fever. Screen scare is just another moral panic.

5 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 2

#10 Oh come on the GOT series finale wasn't that bad.

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

fuck the anti-technology sentiment some dipshits have. I talk to people in other countries on my phone, maybe you just arent as interesting

PHONE BAD WIFE BAD BOOK GOOD

5 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 4

All the incisive wit of an old man at a bus station who shouts in your ear about those damn kids and their phones.

5 years ago | Likes 119 Dislikes 8

Yeah, its rich coming from the generations who raised their kids on TV and tech and now complains that everyone uses it too much

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

This artist is getting roasted here for not liking cell phones, but some of these (like the UN one) are great.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Takes a quite dim view of humanity don't he

5 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 2

I agree, go out an cut someones fuckin lawn instead of moaning about it.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Phone bad.

5 years ago | Likes 86 Dislikes 8

I mean some of these accurately depict how family life has changed as we've embraced tech & further disconnected ourselves from each other.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

boomer art.

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

Here's the thing. It is.

That’s a gateway to souping or trampolining

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'd rather not associate kids with sexting, if you don't mind. :|

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Is the “satire” him making fun of every other 50+ y.o. artist who is wants to complain about new thing? It’s hard to spot Poes these days.

Never understood why people are so upset if you read news on a phone or computer rather then a paper. It’s More environmental even

Why does every single person have a separate mouse for their laptop in #1?

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

And not a single wireless mouse

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Because trackpads are awful.

5 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Because the person who drew these has an incredible lack of techno knowledge

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

He's Austrian born and raised during the rise of lenins communism. He's probably wary of media in general. Lots of blatant propaganda and 1

And social control that young people don't understand. AntiSemitism is even on the rise in a big way. Much fueled by the propaganda he 2

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 5

Or you know....

In 1951 Lenin was a) long dead and b) had no influence on Austria.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I'm meant Stalin. Good catch.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Been reading a lot of Jewish communist/socialist history. Got my commies mixed up.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Reminds me of black mirror. Which of course reminds me of the twilight zone and then I feel sad.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Yeah but Black Mirror is never inherently anti technology. It’s more ah ‘let’s take an aspect of technology as take it to the extreme’.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

His art would be better if he wasn’t boomering endlessly about phones and laptops. He’s way too in love with that vibe.

PHONE BAD. BAD PHONE SMASH. MILLENNIAL BAD. OLD WAYS GOOD. TWO LEGS BETTER. Yep, that’s about right.

5 years ago | Likes 76 Dislikes 8

Sure some of these are questionable like #1 but there is substance to many of these. We are becoming disconnected from each other.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

We just spent a year being forced into physical disconnection, with the internet saving people’s sanity.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

True, but things are rarely black and white. It has many benefits but we'd be ignorant to stay blind to the aspects that are destructive.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Could understand these being exaggerated warnings/fears of the artist and the amount of vitriol and rejection it faces is disgusting to see.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

They are tools, and how you use them is important. But going all “HURR HURR PHONES BAD” hardly helps.

I will say though that the need to document over the need to experience kind of bums me out

I can't get over the smugness of people who do these kind of "technology bad" cartoons.

5 years ago | Likes 763 Dislikes 29

I can't get over the defensiveness off people who have to pretend technology is good.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 11

I mean there is some substance to their message. We have become extremely addicted to tech & picked up many detrimental habits.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just look how poorly people hold discourse online. People are as a whole are becoming like homeschooled children. Disconnected and fragile.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Tech use is both the greatest and worst thing to happen to humanity. Let’s hope it plays out ok haha

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Agreed. We have all the information in the world at our disposal and all the disorder to become completely lost inside of it.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Especially knowing without technology, nobody could see their cartoons. "Dont use technology, except to look at my art."

5 years ago | Likes 55 Dislikes 4

Spiegel is still published weekly in print. So no, people could still see his cartoons even without smartphones and all.

Books don't have constant, neverending supply of cheap validation and overstimulation. They don't nag until you pick them up again.

Never heard of a penny dreadful or dime novel I take it? Cheap media has always been a thing.

5 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Exactly that’s all this anti technology stuff is. Luddites.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah it's not the media but how the people responsible for the content uses it. The more effective the media, the larger the implications.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I'm a tech-head myself but I also work in the mass media field. Nothing is given away for free and if you don't pay, then you're the goods.

I generally agree about the "TECHNOLOGY BAD" bullshit, but AFAIK there is actually some evidence to suggest that people are lonelier than

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

before despite the existence of social media. Or rather, social media makes people feel lonelier. Personally I've definitely gone off online

I interpret some as a perspective how technology has changed everyday life, with a somber/neg take. “Tech is tool but doesn’t fix life”prhps

5 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 7

It's not just a tool. It's a whole ethos and worldview. Technology is not neutral, not a tool. It's a seduction.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

that's your take away from this?

5 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 36

5 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

That's the knee-jerk reaction when people feel that their way of life is under attack; the low-hanging fruit for internet points. Which is

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 28

pretty much what the images seem to be about, at least more than the "phone bad" -oversimplification.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 24

The old man & could aspect is there but there certainly is a difference in stimuli and consumer habits. If someone argues otherwise they

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 16

feel personally attacked - like unsolicited advice for a drunk or smoker - and I get it, as an addict-brained individual. But I also work

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 15
