Yes. Never listen to new people with different views. Stay in your set ways. You are perfection.

I was a temp while going to grad school and figured out how to do the work of 4 full time people with an excel formula. No one listened lol

12 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

When they try to do that to me, this goes threw my head.

I'm with OP. Don't confuse telling me how to do my job with listening to ideas. Completely different.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Or you could. You know... Listen to see if it's any good. Give them a few tips or pointers if you don't agree, or actually learn 1/2

12 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

something if you do think they have a point. 2/2

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

What does MRW mean? I see it all the time. Too lazy to google it :(

+1 for anything dave chappelle

"Listen here you lil' shit"

12 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

Well naturally you shouldn't listen to her if your Dave Chapelle.

12 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 4

I'm impressed that you own a Dave Chapelle, but what did he do?

If my Dave Chapelle what?

12 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

You bastard! I came here to say exactly the same thing.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Granted, the "newbie" will get a lot of stuff wrong, but listen anyway. Either to correct them, or sometimes, get some new insights :)

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ahaha I've had that feeling.

As a cop, when one of my old trainees tried to take my seat at the briefing table.

It's more of a HOW they tell you...

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Obviously you don't know how to do your job OP :P

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

My reaction when i'm one of the newly hired trainees and a guy tells me how to do my job. When he doesn't even know what is my job.

Mr. Hawaii 5-0 in the background is fucking loving that shit.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

because they couldn't possibly have anything to offer...

12 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

I like your 'fro.

Not listening to new ideas is the hallmark of an excellent employee.

12 years ago | Likes 183 Dislikes 17

An innovative employee. A real "go-getter"!

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

To be fair, tried and true approaches > by-the-book ones

12 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

New idea != a good idea, especially from someone who is still in training.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

OP said he was told what to do, doesn't sound like it was an idea or suggestion...

12 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 4

To be fair that's just what OP says, a lot of people will frame any idea that doesn't come from them as "telling me how to do my job"

12 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

I agree. We have zero context. But plenty of new little shits who don't know what they're talking about.

12 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

(1) Depends on the job, though. I work in a call center, and a lot of the older employees give out misinformation all the fucking time.

12 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

(2) They REALLY don't like it when you try to correct them. I've been there 2 years now, and I'm still cleaning up their messes.

12 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

(3) But they also throw out ridiculous rules at us that make our jobs harder and confuse our customers. The newer people were trained with

12 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

(4) these rules, and I just listen to them struggle on their calls while I keep using the tried and true method.

12 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Isn't this what supervisors are for? Or is your supervisor one of those older employees?

"u wot m8, i'll do ur 'ead in."

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As a french, I got really confused 'cause "trainée" is a real bad bad word here, meaning "whore", but a disgusting one.

12 years ago | Likes 60 Dislikes 4

TIL. Imagine a trainée trainee. Yum.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Trainee means someone in training for a new job. Unless you already figured that out, then terribly sorry, have a fabulous day!

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Ah ah yes I got that, thank you anyway and have a fabulous day as well :)

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As an English, that's hilarious!

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Over here we just call them trannys.

12 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

No no no they're real women. "trainer" means something like "walking around", so "une trainée" is walking around hunting dicks.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

It was a joke about disgusting whores being trannys. Sorry either language barrier or just a bad joke.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Oh don't be sorry, I'm far from being a fast thinker :)

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

tranny??

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

nope , they're real women, it comes from "trainer", which means like "to trail", so basically "trainées" are trailing around for dicks.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

As in, she is so bad, that she still is learning which parts go where? A trainee prostitute? "You incompetent newbie whore!"

12 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Ah lol no, she exactly knows what's she doing, let's say "une trainée" is worse than a whore.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

She is worn out is what he means.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As a French what?

I tend to listen to people that are 'below' me in corporate structure because I'm aware that I don't know everything and I'm not perfect.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'd suggest it is the alpha who is so secure in his status/role/life that he doesn't mind being questioned :)

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I agree. I've learned things from younger, newer employees and taught older, veteran employees.

12 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 2

Quite. Though that being said, feel free to educate them and/or kick them in the crotch if they're wrong

12 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

As a trainer, FNGs are fucking idiots, though. Be humble and listen more than you talk. My time is much more valuable than you.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

New employees can have valuable insight because they are approaching the problem from a fresh perspective.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

HUMBLEBRAG

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I make bets, who ever is wrong has to read the training guide again.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ha! Gaaaay!

12 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

Most people do, doesn't mean they are right. Especially if they are new to the company.

12 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Of course, but if they're not right you can tell them why, then they'll hopefully not make the mistake themselves

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wait, you mean if two people engage in healthy conversation, with the intention to learn, someone leaves the conversation having learned? :O

12 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It's madness what can be achieved when people are open to having their ideas challenged :o

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You have literally just blown my mind. Literally.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So you mean...you're actually a reasonable person?! GET THE PITCHFORKS OUT!

12 years ago | Likes 110 Dislikes 1

I'm a software engineer by trade, so people just starting work often (though not always) know the latest and greatest techniques.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Way ahead of you.

12 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 1

Goddamnit where did you get it

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Stole it from a dictator of lemons and fish.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That being said, they don't always understand a system well enough to implement those techniques

12 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

DAMN IT FORGOT MY PITCHFORK!!!! But I just so happen to have some tar and feathers though.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I tend to deliver advice to more experienced people in the form of "why do we not do this?"

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That, or have them talk you through their idea step by step in detail and hopefully they see why it might not be a good idea (1/2)

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

(2/2) or they'll convince you why it might be a good idea

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This . As a Supervisor with multiple people below me, listening to them can sometimes offer great insight and ideas.

12 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

Key word being "sometimes".

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As long as they've put thought into their ideas

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Agreed but big difference in suggestions vs telling someone how to do their job. Of course we don't know exact context of OPs post

12 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

TIL "newly hired trainees" are the best source of corporate wisdom.

12 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

They are ~a~ source, not the best :)

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

They are not *a* source until after they are trained.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Just because someone doesn't have specific training doesn't mean they don't have domain knowledge or useful insights.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

You actually believe that, don't you? How long have you been in the working world, out of curiosity?

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Oh piss off!

12 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 8

Thanks for your input, king of rodents, but I think I'll choose not to follow the advice based on it being utterly fucking useless \o/

12 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 4

This is adorable. You're adorable.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You people give me a fucking mousegrain sometimes. I am done with you petty shites!
