I’ve played Civ V on and off for years. Tried VI, and didn’t care for it. Went back to V. With holiday vacation, some friends and I decided to do some multi.

Apparently they screwed the pooch on messing with the launcher and now I can’t play anymore. Tried a lot of the fixes and nothing.

Thanks for nothing 2k and Steam.

I'd try contacting Steam support to see if there's anything they can do for you.

There’s apparently something going on with authentication between the Firaxis launcher and Steam. I can’t get X-Com to launch and reading up on it a lot of people were having trouble with Civ as well

Apparently even if you get it working there's a glitch with its cloud save mechanic where it eventually starts overwriting itself and everyone desyncs. So if you finish up fast enough it just crashes.

Old machine emulation++

Sure I could sail the seven seas for it, but I’m not tech savvy and I’m not sure it’d work for multi

I run from Steam. Works

Me too. No work. Always tells me “updating executable” then doesn’t play.

a few things you could try if you not already did:
- try to validate the files through steam
- delete the exetutable from the install folder and than validate through steam
- deinstall and install the game again. make sure there are no leftover files in the game folder after the deinstall.

Ya. Thanks. But I did all of that. Shit.. it’s been forever so I reformatted my machine and reinstalled steam and civ as well.

Got a savvy friend who might take a look at it for me. But /shrug. Just screaming into the void now.

From the community discussions it seems almost random.

Yup. Tried that. Stumbled upon that exact Reddit post. And didn’t work.
