Forgive my crappy graphics, I'm not very good at it. But this is Australia on google maps, with some zoomed in sections to show what is in the 3 main colours.

The dark green is all undeveloped bushland, but it's pretty much all mountainous terrain that is not very useful for agriculture.

The brown area is all desert. If you have ever heard of Australia being called the sunburnt country this is why. It is also a play on words because tourists usually get sunburnt as they are not used to the sun we get. Obviously desert is also not very useful for agriculture.

The light green area that is left over is all farmland.

What I am demonstrating is that we already use pretty much all of the arable land for farming. I don't mean just in Australia. This is the same the world over. Go see for yourself, zoom right in anywhere in the world that you see similar light green, and you will find neatly divided crop fields.

Or you will find something like this. Wide open and flat with a pond/lake. Livestock lives here.

Most of the landmass we have left is not suitable for farming for one reason or another. We have another world crisis brewing that nobody is even talking about. One day there wont be enough food for everyone.

Don't panic though. Global warming will probably kill us first, and scientists are always inventing, so we have some new tech being developed now that will help slow this down.

One of those things is factory farming. As in we plant one level of carrots on the ground then build a structure to put another level of carrots above with artificial lights and stuff. Then another level, etc.

The second item is lab grown meat. If they can figure out how to mass produce that, then we don't need the space that the livestock take up. Currently there is some basic building block that they cannot mass produce or something like that.

The third is GMO, or genetically modified organisms. Crops that are more resistant to drought, and grow bigger, that sort of thing.

It bothers me when you see things like "non-gmo" food, and all the fear mongering about it that has little or no basis in fact. It is the same as when anti-vaxxers were a small minority claiming that it caused autism. Look how that turned out. Making unfounded claims about gmo foods being somehow unhealthy promises to create another schism when gmo foods become crucial to our survival. Plus, we've been genetically modifying food since agriculture was invented to produce bigger carrots or whatever.

Peta will cry blood when they realize what happens to livestock after and if we ever move to lab grown meat...

Why would you post maps showing locations of farmlands when you haven't defeated the emu scourge?

Sad surprise for you- no one around here wants to contemplate global overpopulation. I've tried. <3

That's ok. It's something that has been on my mind since I noticed the farmland on google maps. Just needed to get it out.
