My favourite as a kid was the Merc CLK

+1, but idk if I'd consider any production Viper a masterpiece of engineering "supercar"; it's always been more brute force muscle car.

Love em all, couldn't afford a valve stem for one.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i like nearly all of these cars, however they're mostly hypercars rather than supercars.

Good post :)

Why thank you

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is now my favorite post on Imgur ever.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I just..wish it did as well as my last one...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's ok man, not all about the points you've done a great service for car lovers everywhere.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The McLaren F1 is such a timeless design. It still looks modern today. Would love to have one.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

The only quirk to get over would be the seating because the driver sits in the middle of the car

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I drove a touring car one time with the seating in the center. Would still want one even if the seat was mounted upside down.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The Viper was first released in 1992, though.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The SRT 10 wasn't

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ah yeah, good point, it was just the RT-10 and GTS.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What's your definition of "classic"?

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Rememberable and recognizable. May not be the Countach, but people asked for some of these

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Also noticed you didnt have the zr1 or the cts-v. Both making more horsepower and better handling than that pos viper

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Why the new GT though?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Calm down guys. It's a solid list! Make your own damn list and add the ones you want and take out the ones you don't. That simple

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It won Le Mans

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As an engineer the only ones I give pass marks to are the Jaguar XJ220 and the Porsche 918. The fuel economy of the others is abysmally low.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Yeah the Porsche gets a special boost too for being a hybrid

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yah. If you own one. Gas prices aren't an issue.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

not about the price it's about using up a finite resourse needlessly. Any car from the 90's onwards that doesn't get at least 30mpg is poor

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You obviously don't own a car with 550hp that does 0-60 in 4.9 and rides like it's on rails. I do. It's worth the 18mpg.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You don't buy a supercharged supersport XJ to go slow or care about gas mileage.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

but that is my point the xj220 is a 30 mpg car with 200+mph speed 25 years ago. modern cars getting 20% pwer 10% speed and half gas .

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

no I own a car that has 320bhp, 0-60 in 3.8 does 35 mpg and would probably do donoughts round your car whilst it;s on its rails.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Does it seat five comfortably, is it under warranty, have two sunroofs, nav, three TVs and look sexy AF parked out front of your house?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Only kind of car with that little HP that you claim goes that fast is a tuner that isn't meant for road trips. My car is.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The XJ220 is one of the most dangerous cars ever made lol. Fuel mileage doesn't mean shit in cars like these anyway 918 is a masterpiece tho

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But the XJ220 could get nearly 30mpg

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It also has loads of turbo lag which can kill you if you mess up the timing.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

doing 200 mph can kill you if you mess up the timing, "where we're going we don't need roads"

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And not every car that can go 200 mph has the unique problem of the turbos kicking in at the wrong time. Then you crash into a tree and

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A civic gets more than 30 mpg. Does that mean it is engineered better? These cars scope of design is not based on MPG, but on power/speed.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

great engineeering would encompass all aspects even those that the intended purchaser doesn't really care about at point of purchase.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No. Great engineers realize that there will be sacrifices necessary to produce the requested outcome. A bridge could be built from a solid

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A v6 that puts out 647hp is pretty impressive.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A V6 that puts out 540 for half the fuel is more impressive.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Slightly. Thats over a hundred horsepower leap though. Pretty substantial difference

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also what vehicle are you referring to? I know the gt-r runs a v6 but it gets roughly the same mpg with a bigger engine

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

ford gt vs jag X220. Jag got close to 30 mpg 25 years ago. bigger ecoboost engine loses mpg but that might be because its in a truck.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As an engineer I don't care about the fuel mileage...

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Then you are an inellegant engineer.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I read some of your comments about cars and you are one smug sonofabitch. Curious what you drive that's so elegant.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There are many engineering aspects to a car other than fuel efficiency. Basing efficiency off of fuel mileage misses the power output.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Certain vehicles are able to produce massive amounts of power using less fuel than others. This is efficiency, not MPG.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

but most of htese cars have disregarded fuel efficency in search of top trump power numbers, which are unusable in most situations.
