Spot on, although a few far right wingers might be happy to vote for a fascist.

It's just going to be a gradual escalation of force until he's holding 'office' indefinitely through military force. We've already shown that any checks and balances of power are useless if no one enforces them.

well, i recall a photo in Germany about a decade ago of a guy with both his eyes on his cheeks, blown out by a firehose turned on protesters. Cops in Berlin have been fully vicious against pro-Palestinian protesters

This is doing nothing. MAGAs are creaming over this murder. I’m sure they see it as revenge for Ashley Babbit. I’ll say it again, the USA is over. It’s done. We missed our chance to change things. But Russia made sure that wouldn’t happen. Russia won.

I'm to sorry to say but it absolutely happened in France. A policeman shot a the young Nahel in a car in a Parisian Suburb, stating the same shit "It was legitime defense". The policeman faced no repercussions and become millionaire because some right-wing media launched a gofundme to pay for his advocate fees. We are not better. Police brutality is the same.

Nowhere on earth is perfect, and injustice exists everywhere, but on the average, I'd sooner live in the EU than almost anywhere else.

Was that the poor young man who had a joyride in a stolen car, no driving licence, drove through inner city with 100 km/h and over red lights, and was going for the gas pedal again after stopped by police?
World is better without that POS.

Well.... It hasn't happened in the EU since the 1940s, or Northern Ireland in the 1970s and 1980s.

Which I know was pre-EU, but EU nations did have these things happen.

I mean, I couldn't find the stats because Google searching police brutality behind the iron curtain seems to only bring up information about the US lol, literally first search result is 'Police brutality in the United States'. But yeah I guess it was just state sanction extrajudicial executions and such in the USSR, so a bit different, but those certainly didn't stop in the 40s and that was certainly still Europe.

Plenty of Americans believed it couldn't happen here either.

They must not have been paying attention to what has happened around them since their birth then, because this has happened before ICE and it will keep happening because the only thing that's changed more recently is bodycams and sometimes they mysteriously turned off.

They still do

The US Constitution is not the problem. The problem is the normalization of violence by the radical right, fanned by decades of "influencers", supported by far-right institutions who never accepted the Civil Rights Movement. Another problem is the sane-washing of the stupidities said by Trump and his crew by the media, even before the recent oligarch acquisitions.

The US Constitution and its interpretation by the Courts is exactly what gives Trump unlimit power. It's not only part of the problem, it's the source of it. Moreover, because the Constitution is nearly impossible to change, there's no redress to the issue: regardless of whether it's Trump or someone else, the Constitution now allows anyone in the position of the President to be the most powerful tyrant on Earth, if they so choose.

Such far-right institutions are the direct descendants (or even the same with different names) of the groups who favored Eugenics and other policies that Nazi Germany used as templates.

This isn't new, first thing that pops in my head is Kent State massacre.

2 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

On May 4, 1970, members of the Ohio National Guard fired into a crowd of Kent State University demonstrators, killing four and wounding nine Kent State students.

It wasn't even a crowd of "demonstrators"--it was just a crowd spread across a large open area. There were demonstrators in there, but unless my memory has scrambled at least one of the four killed was simply crossing a common on her way to class. Local newspapers tried to paint her as a radical and a slut after her killing.

Scrapping the Constitution? Hmmm.... it really does work if followed. Case in point: this current regime has been enabled by a congress that has ignored everything the constitution says. And a Supreme Court that has chosen to ignore and/or outright allow that.

You've hit on the main problem with the US Constitution though, it's so broad and open to interpretation that there no one way to just 'follow it'. Moreover it's nearly impossible to change; for example, the Constitution has no method of addressing or resolving the issue of a President becoming an all-power tyrant. Make no mistake, the current Constitution is part of why we're in this current state.

You don't get to where we are now without the Constitution being catastrophically, terminally infected by facism. I'm not saying we need to decide whether or not to get rid of it. I'm saying that decision's already been made; what you believed of the American Constitution is currently gone, and is not coming back. All it's poisoned husk does now is give great power to evil minds.
