#2 I encountered one once. He appeared out of the mists on our mountaintop at the mountain warfare training center. He chewed our asses for being unsat. And then gave us the most intense training/explaining we ever had. Then he disappeared back into the mists, never to be seen again. This is a true story.
I had an amazing one, but when I met him he had just received the rank. I was about to 4th person to salute him. He still did PT. A few years later he said hi to me, by name, in an airport.
I encountered a lot of them at the flight clinic. As the newest member, they thought it'd be funny to stick me with the apparently terrible task of 'all the shit the doctor doesn't want to do' for yearly physicals.
One of the other medics came in to 'check my work' and started in on me for not scolding him about his smoking.
