I've been stunned. Just stunned to find out a lot of Latinos I know voted trump believing he was going to deport "just the bad immigrants". One's cousin and his family and their grandparents were all brought here and have been trying to get legal status (not possible with how they came). Now they're ALL going to get deported and neither seems to believe it.

Shame on them for seeing through the claims to the obvious "we mean all south and central immigrants and/or brown people" intentions.

I didn't think the leopard would eat MY green card!

It's their family members' green cards. They're citizens with voting rights.

Honestly, I think these are the perfect people to work with to make sure Republicans don't win again from the top down. You don't have to forgive them. But denigrating them and pushing them aside is the wrong move. That's just lost votes from people who can learn a serious lesson and reject MAGA and the GOP forever.

Thats an interesting and well thought out point. If i could add for your consideration. Hot take:"You cant fix stupid" And i dont have the time or the crayons to try. As far as im concerned if you ushered this in then your too dumb to deserve to be a part of a better america. 21% of americans cant read at a basic level, And you wanna try and teach them advanced empathy and hope they reform?

They admitted they got fucked. They know they were stupid. The problem is A LOT of working people get propagandized too, including non-conservatives. Conservatives get absolutely pounding with bullshit and gaslighting. A lot of people don't have time to check everything out. And in this case they thought "Christian" presenting conservative politicians weren't lying to them. The speed of politics today is a fire hose of diarrhea with decades of PR spin. People end up getting it curated for them.

It would be even more stupid to burn the bridge between potential allies just to you can say "I told you so" and lose it all. It's like those "sunk cost fallacy" following conservatives who double down on indefensible stupid because they don't want to be wrong.

Then let them rebuild the bridge. Actions speak louder than words. There is no “let’s meet them halfway”. There is only: “ we fucked up, we know that. We’re gonna stfu and follow directions of the main party.” Im done with this “I’m sorry i kicked you in the balls and it’ll totally happen again but right now my house is on fire and I’d really like it if you’d help”.

IF (and it's a big if) we have elections this year and in 2026 I hope they remember this and vote accordingly.

Yeah... denaturalization could be an option. The Constitution doesn't mention it, but does give Congress powers over naturalization. And Trump is into the idea. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2025/01/27/trump-resumes-threat-to-denaturalize-citizens/77905612007 And Project 2025 has some related stuff in it. Here's one take on it, which is basically, yeah they can do that. https://constitution.congress.gov/browse/essay/artI-S8-C4-1-5-1/ALDE_00013170

I am confident they will certainly try.

I don't think the "if" is if we have elections. I think it's if they count for anything.

1 year ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

They wouldn't be elections then.

The Soviets had elections. Everything was well and proper. You had just as many options on whom to vote for as you did on brand of shoes or toilet paper: 1.

Your attempt at a point is that it doesn't count if the outcome is foregone. My point is that some people will lap it up if the process is followed, in denial of reality, and it will be good enough for them until they're fucked over. Anyways, it was just a thought. Have a good one.
