Everyone's saying that the death penalty must not be a deterrent then... Except that's not what's happening. Death with reprieve means a two year suspended sentence where death is carried out only if the convicted commits further crimes during the suspended sentence. After that, the sentence is automatically reduced to life imprisonment.
Thats why the death penalty is not a good deterrent. People who do crime, do crime because they think they will get away with it. You say "death penulty is effective" then link to a crime where the death penulty does not prevent
I think corruption has been so common in China it’s just a matter of if & when the government needs a reason to punish someone they don’t really have to investigate that much
2 years of monitoring and hard labor, if he is a good prisoner, he gets life without parole. If he does something against the conviction or does not show repentance, then in 2 years he will be shot in the back of the head.

Corruption is only punished in China when you get on the wrong side of the ruling class, which is entirely corrupt.

How do you figure? Even with the threat of a death penalty, he still went ahead and did it, didn't he?

Death with reprieve..
Meaning he was sentenced to death.. But they're not actually going to follow through.
So, what was he actually sentenced to?
