Why do all the dumb people drive the nicer cars? I swear I knew a PhD professor who commuted three hours a day in an old beat up but reliable Toyota Camry. Not saying Toyotas aren’t nice but I’m pretty sure Dr. B. would have preferred a Mercedes SUV for safety and comfort.
My wife is a senior database manager and she drives a 2008 subaru. Her flawless logic is that if it lasted this long why replace it? Newer cars keep having all these safety issues and recalls and this thing is nigh indestructible. Who cares if it doesn't have bluetooth?
Car loses like half its resale value the moment you drive it off the lot. I have two paid off cars, one absolute shitbox beater and one decently well kept mid tier SUV tennis shoe looking fucker. When one of them craps the trans out on the highway I will go buy another beater. Brand new cars are for the folks with too much money, imo.
My sis-in-law is a medical consultant and head of a hospital department, and drives a 2009 Audi A4 with a full Audi dealer service history and 280,000km (173k miles) on it. She says it's a great car (fully-loaded estate/wagon) she likes it a lot. It's had loads of genuine Audi replacement parts over the years, but she says the service costs are just like payments on a car that would otherwise have replaced it.
