TychoTychoAlba
So many webcomic creators are surprisingly attractive.
ICantThinkOfAUsernameWhilePooping
#11 nope.
blessedarethecheesemakers
I have worked for and now manage a helpdesk. This is my favorite: https://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/wisdom_of_the_ancients.png
AsAHistorian
Anyone remember that enormous one he did, years back, where you could just click and drag for miles and miles and miles? That was honestly beautiful.
Nathanyel
Wtf, Randall is younger than me?
pritolus
Quit his engineering job at NASA to make silly little stick figure comics full time, like the absolute legend he is.
I think Randall Munroe is the closest thing I have to a hero
studog2010
Matthew Inman shuold be up there too.
thekeyofe
Shit, he's younger than me? I thought he was older.
ssjalhazred
I know I'm easily amused because it never stops amusing me that Wookiepedia's policy is to always be written in the last tense because it's *a long time ago...*
blackneomil
Also, through XKCD, the inventor of Geohashing. It's one of my hobbies and a really fun way to explore and see the world.
We have a discord if anyone's interested.
jimfalconer611
#6 Iβm confused, is there a different way to save your documents?
executivedisfunction
Label each entry with a meaningful title? Something i intend to implement shortly.
NeverShaveYourDuck
The correlation/causation joke is so clever!
JacobOfAmber
Tautalogoy club!
DocTanner
I've been reading this dude's stuff (comic and books) for what seems like forever. But I've never seen his face until today.
TeaOverdose
He looks so... normal. Like, a regular dude.
studog2010
We're 2 of the Lucky 10,000!
technofiend
I did the buy random stuff off Ebay thing but sent them all to an employee anonymously.
CrabbyBlueberry
Y'all know that he's putting What If on YouTube, right? The one about the glass half full is spectacular.
pritolus
My all time fave is Mole of Moles
CrabbyBlueberry
Oooh that's gonna be a great video.

Legend
ByThePowerOfSCIENCE
the Secretary of the Internet arc was so good (the references are a bit dated now) https://xkcd.com/494/
BlackBugImages
Is the ending of that a reference to the Ticktock Man? With all the jellybeans?
MandaloreTheDefiler
God I loved that one.
Mirilali
geoffreyfourmyle
Backstory: that strip was several months after this one, for which the mouseover text is "If a wild bun is sighted, a nice gesture of respect is to send a 'BUN ALERT' message to friends and family, with photographs documenting the bun's location and rank. If no photographs are possible, emoji may be substituted."
GingerGoddess357
I have a small, badly aged xkcd tattoo. It's mr Tumnus from "prudence" https://xkcd.com/665/

I love the wireless charging port...
helljack
Nifty. I had no idea he and I shared a birthday.
I did know that I shared an exact birthπππ§π with Eminem.
CrabbyBlueberry
Due to the Star Wars Tipping Point, there are now grown ass-adults who are *nostalgic* for the Phantom Menace, who can, with all due respect, collectively get the fuck off my lawn. Just realize that some day, there will be grown ass-adults who are equally nostalgic for The Force Awakens.
MooseBiteVictim
Doubt it. The prequels had a clear vision, and did what they tried to do. The sequels were vaguely star wars cashouts by Disney with a confused jumble and pale characters.
CrabbyBlueberry
(to be fair and balanced, those people did convince me to re-evaluate the prequel trilogy, and it's alright I guess.)
onlyawfulnamesleft
The Prequels are better than The Sequels. We didn't know it at the time, but they were campy, quotable fun.
iguanodont
https://open.spotify.com/episode/0kWbLoti8f1WX1cSoJqdgS?si=JnIhlR7VQq6R9yh8oIzYNw&t=86 love the episode of Daniel and Jorge explain the universe with him
WarlockSniper
Damn, I am *OLDER* than the xkcd guy?
Fuck.
On the bright side, I love the xkcd guy.
itslef
I'm around his same age, and I had a similar reaction. Been reading XKCD since highschool. It always felt like he must have been so much more adult and established, and now I find out he's basically in my peer group. WTF am I doing with my life.
INeedMoreGifMeMoreJustOneMore
Absolutely same feeling. He had an engineering career at NASA and quit that before becoming a successful internet cartoonist? And I'm, what, doing some dumb desk job, still??
discotheque42
Today, I'm one of the 10,000
TeaOverdose
He did something good with that one.
Northwindlowlander
I have a print of this one on my wall, because it's funny, deranged and also really rather nice to look at
https://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/alternative_energy_revolution.jpg
studog2010
I like it because it's the only Tripod reference I have ever seen
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tripods
TIL They made a TV series! https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086818/reference/ I am part of 2 10,000s!
studog2010
AND! TIL there's a 4th book in the series! 3! 3 10,000s!!! muhahahaha
geoffreyfourmyle
Namotatop

CheeseIsNaturesFudge
Five tits? That's just sick.
ahorseelbowdeepinme
My favorite
AmazingNoodleSmuggler
I read this one while eating some apple pie and vanilla sauce for breakfast.
DirtRockets
I was overjoyed when I found that one, as my reply to "act your age" was always "I can't act any other way".
discotheque42
One of the oldest and greatest.
fantabuloustimewaster
One of the early great ones. It felt like years and years before he actually built his real ball pit, but that was at least as far back as 2008: https://blog.xkcd.com/2008/02/27/ballpit-phase-ii/
Durtschi
This makes me happy.
GravyEducation
#11 literally just a few days ago somebody referred to "a hot dog is a taco" so you got about two and a half months to be right about that
TeaOverdose
All this would be solved if people admitted that we're missing a word that encompasses sandwiches, tacos, dumplings, etc.
CrabbyBlueberry
Pretty sure the Cube Rule settled it. Now excuse me, I'm going to have some ~~lasagna~~ cake.
GravyEducation
The cube rule is flawed, imo, but if you really wanna use it, I don't mind. Can I have some of that lasagna?
CrabbyBlueberry
OK, so what's your D&D alignment?
GravyEducation
Probably true neutral leaning towards ingredient rebel. The best way to do it is i would need specific examples, eg I think an open-faced sandwich is still a sandwich, since just semantically people call it a sandwich; a hot dog is not a taco but I really hate when people say a taco can't be made with flour tortillas. Yeah probably just neutral and there may be exceptions on a case by case basis.
GravyEducation
Also I'm stealing this
CrabbyBlueberry
No way, I stole it first! Kidding, go for it.
MandaloreTheDefiler
I have a few of his books. I think What if? and Thing Explainer
aguacatedeldiablo
He also has a story in Machine of Death IIRC.
CaptainCaptObvious
There's a part 2 to what if? My husband's enjoys his books
Beefkins
What If? is so good
shapr
I got to help with Thing Explainer. The automobile engine is from Randall's car at the time. Fun times.
AdOculos
Story time!

Not much to say, I worked on cars for 15 years. I was in the area and wanted xkcd people to come drink a beer with me. Said they had to work, I asked if I could help them get it done faster so we could have a beer sooner. They didn't know how to identify all the parts on the car engine, and I could identify all but one from pictures. We had to scrape the grease off the part numbers on Randall's car engine. Turns out the Honda Fit has variable timing! What a punchline! :-)
