MFW my employee says " I have an escalation but they will only talk to a man"

Sep 6, 2016 12:36 AM

So I work in a call center for an insurance company (and, as title suggests, I am a woman supervisor - we assist with coverage stuff, billing, payments, ect. Escalations happen, and sometimes they are legit, but lately there has been a rash of people escalating, and demanding a man (or in one case, a woman escalated and stated explicitly she needed " A male") - the irony being that typically the male colleague who takes the call needs to ask me for my opinion/help because I am more savvy in the tech/guideline areas than they are. (My male co workers are awesome, but they just have different backgrounds in the organization than I do).

TL'DR - People escalate over dumb stuff, but only want to escalate to a man. and that man ends up needing my help to fix it.

So do you only make 72 cents to the dollar?

Take the call and let them know that they'll speak to you, or nobody at all.

I wish I could - sadly they tend to hang up and call back - so its just easier to get a gent to take it and move on with life.

I don't get why people get so hung up over the gender/orientation/colour of other people without ever knowing them first. People are dumb.

They think women are "bitchy", and that they'll have better success with a guy. It never works, but that doesn't seem to stop the idea

I'm pretty sure I'm more bitchy than my wife.

Down vote because I don't like the way you used parentheses.

Downvote because you're a little bitch.

So you have to hand over the call, OP? If you're the suervisor, they shouldn't need to talk to anyone but you.

Unfortunately, our directors have asked that we do get a male supe as opposed to trying to fix stupid in a 4 minute call. It is (1/2)

annoying, but ultimately easier for everyone.

I suppose it's easier, but that sucks...sorry to hear that.
