... And the series wasn't half bad though I would say it was nothing like the books. It was quirky, and fun, and at times moving. Not surprised it was cancelled, but still wish there had been more of it.

can some one please explain why there is a fighter jet in my living room?

Have you noticed an of acceleration of strangeness in your life as of late?

The show was a lot of fun but Max Landis can rot, for all I care.

I am wildly aware!!

Very good show !!

Douglas Adams would never have approved of the American television version of this. I can't remember him gratuitously using violence in his writing but the US version of the story novels with blood literally everywhere.

“There’s more than one Ken?” I loved this show so much.

Yeah, I discovered this and the previous 2010 BBC Dirk series when I was binging Procedural series like Criminal Minds. I wish Dirk received more seasons, just like the series Firefly and Forever, cut way too short way too soon.

I was able to grab at least one of the season on DVD randomly in a Dollar Tree. Pretty solid find.

Have yet to watch the show but I reference bad times as 'long dark tea times of the soul" because of the books.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The Long, Dark Teatime of the Soul is one of my favorite books, and IMO one of the most well-written works of literature. It's so tight and perfect. None of the shows I've watched has done it justice; too often it's just Sherlock Holmes with the serial numbers filed off, when Dirk Gently's explicitly not Holmes. There's even a scene in TLDTotS where Dirk rejects Holmes' whole disregard of impossibility.

Dirt Muppet. Best.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I didnt even know there was a show

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It's INCREDIBLE

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The second season goes hard on the weird though and I love it

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I enjoyed that the villain in S1 is explicitly based on RedLetterMedia's Mr Plinkett (and Max Landis appeared on RLM) and then the organisation in S2 is explicitly based on the SCP Foundation (Max Landis is an SCP site member who wrote at least one). Shame there was no S3 and that Max Landis turned out to be... bad? I dunno, I missed the whole thing but he's Gone now.

He's an abuser and rapist. He can't be gone enough.

"More than one, you say?"

I hated the books but loved the shows. Samuel Barnett is a great actor, does fun work in the Torchwood series from Big Finish

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

Go watch it NOW!!!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I didn't know this was a book series. I loved the show and was bummed it ended after only two seasons

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

It needed at least one more season to conclude that stuff at the end.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Dot to come back to after I get off this damn airplane.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

One of my favorite shows ever!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I enjoyed this show muchly.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Season 1 was absolutely amazing! Season 2 kinda meh, still have to finish it...

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

The end brings it all together

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Watch the UK version and read the books. Douglas is a gentle, thoughtful writer.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've read the books. Had read the first one when I watched the series and the rest after. I still liked the show. I plan to have a go at the UK version soon.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's a quality show

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ended too soon.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That reminds me, I need to watch Season 2.

2 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Sadly, you don't.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I didn’t think it was as good but still a fun quirky show worth the watch

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

be prepared, it does away with any intelligence and just dials up the batshit-insanity

2 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Fr, first time I watched the first episodes I was so confused and very unsure if I would enjoy it. But damn did I enjoy it, so good

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think I watched 1-2 episodes and remember thinking it was a bit more out there, which is saying a lot. I'll probably restart once my free month of Amazon Prime is up in a couple of weeks.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That's a good description. With a show like this, it is so difficult to create a follow up when the show was never really driven by plot.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Bart was my favorite.

2 years ago | Likes 113 Dislikes 0

Dirt Muppet

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

By far my favorite character too. The actor did a spot on job at being a clueless, blood soaked mercenary, with a heart of gold.

There are TWO KENS?

Is something my husband and I say to each other with surprising frequency

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you notice a similarity between her, the main character in American Ultra, & Mr. Right - it's the same director, AND THE SAME UNIVERSE

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I really liked Mr Right's two main characters. Shame it wasn't made better. Think I'll rewatch it soon.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I only watched it because of imgur & I loved it, I've rewatched it multiple times. There's some sort of magic to it that just works for me. Also, has Ansen Mount and he STILL has fantastic hair just like in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Also fun fact: It's the frkn fabulous @BottomShelfvodka's favourite film!

I LOVE Mr Right!!

Like Father, Like Daughter

2 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

I feel weird being attracted to her seeing as she looks so much like her dad.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fun fact, she played her dad's character in flashbacks, in the current run of Chucky. She's amazing

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

She really broke a leg.

I loved the books but I hated that show, although to be fair I only watched the first season. Check out the "Dirk Gently" tv series from the BBC in 2010(or so).

I had only read the first book when I watched it so I only had that as a frame of reference. I don't think it was as good as the books but I didn't hate it. Though at first I was a bit put off.

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I liked the books and was a bit disturbed at first by the series being very far from the books. But the series is very charming and unexpected in a good way.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I remember enjoying the BBC series.. I had no interest in the OP series

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It's a TERRIBLE adaptation, but a remarkably good show in its own rights. Forget the link to the books at all and just view it on its own merits, and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised!

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Might try that.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The first season was great IMO, but it's a good thing you didn't watch the 2nd!

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Confusingly: the 2010–2012 series was made by ITV, but initially broadcast by the BBC. The 2016–2017 was made by BBC America, and put on Netflix. So, they're both BBC series: just yet another example of a popular UK original and its US remake…

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I liked the books and I liked both versions of it on TV. This one wasn't exactly as close to the original, but it was quirky and enjoyable.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oh I thought this was that show. You'd say the 2010 version is closer?

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I absolutely would. The 2016 series was kind of an affront to the source material IMO. Dirk wasn’t Dirk, pointless gratuitous violence, seemed like they wanted to cram as much random shit into it and didn’t know how to strongly tie it together. Just not very well executed.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

YES! Dirk was not Dirk at all. BUT! I loved the books and I loved the show. I thought it was a good show, they just needed to call it something else and not try to link it to the books.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's all good! I hated the books and loved the show. And I had read the books first!

2 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

Did you try to eat them? Because they're meant to be read. Unless you made that mistake, I don't understand your comment.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

People can like different things. I didn't hate the books, but I too enjoyed the show more, because I felt more attached to the characters than with the books. The same way I feel more invested in the life of the BBC Sherlock than the one from original stories. The mysteries took primacy in the written works, the characters in the tv show (imo) and that's what I liked about both
