The idea is that the different grits each get their own shelf. I made this out of some scraps and free offcuts I got from Home Depot.

I bought a cheap table saw a while back but it's been too wet to use it before now so this was my first time using it. I routed the dadoes in a 1x8 then ripped it into the three pieces. Surprisingly, I still have all my fingers and toes after this.

Each shelf is stopped from coming all the way out by a cap-head screw and acorn nut.

Unfortunately, the dadoes are too big (I have 1/8" (too small) and 1/4" (too big) router bits; I need a 3/16" bit) so they don't slide into the rear dadoes the way they're supposed to. You can see this on the third shelf from the top. I still like the idea, even though I clearly don't have the skills needed to execute it properly.

Ironically, I forgot to sand everything before putting it together. Yay me.

That is really a clever idea, and the fact you learned something while making it so the next project will be a bit better is what it is all about…learn as we go!👍

Takes a lot of grit to make something like that.

So smart! If you get more than a few sheets you’ll be taller than the acorn. Maybe a long dowel down the entire stack? Also, you learned and developed more skills by trying. This is the best thing, no major investment, and you ended up with something USEFUL! Good on you!!

The acorn nuts are just to keep the shelves from coming all the way out. They hit up against the dadoes when the shelf is pulled forward. I probably should have put the shelves further apart to give more room but I don't mind using 2 shelves for the same grit.
