This is why on the rare occasions that I have to check a bag, I use a soft canvas backpack and only fill it with clothes and durable small things like extra chargers/cables. It's completely immune to damage via smashing, and if for some reason the backpack tears, it only cost me $35 for 13 years of use.
I know it's an issue for a lot of people, but I travel a fair bit and haven't really had anything untoward happen to my luggage. By and large, everyone seems to be doing the best they can under rough circumstances throughout the process.
I can't really blame them since the bag guys at the plane only have like 45 minutes to unload and load the plane. Nothing will change until CEOs take a buzz cut to their salaries and hire enough people. Until then, just buy hard shelled luggage.
A few years ago I had to travel a fair bit hauling a decently heavy laptop. Luckily now I can make do with a phone and a tablet. This way I can easily fit what I need for up to a week into my cabin bag. Saves time and spares me from worrying about the luggage. Granted, since I usually need formal clothes as well, packing takes some engineering.
It's lower energy and effort to not toss them as hard. Just gently throw them in the general direction. Maybe have the second person arrange them more carefully after? Why exert more effort than required when doing a crappy job in all kinds of weather?

You forgot the part where they steal your stuff!

This kills the bag

Honestly more concerned there is a lock on my back personally since sometimes people do go through them.
Yellowchopsticks
That looks small enough to be a carry-on.

Buy/Pack your luggage like it's going to fall down a flight of stairs. Because that's basically how it's handed.

This clip has extremely high effort, & high production value, for such a low comedy concept. Literally EVERYONE watching it could have written it.

Delta be like: we'll give you $4.50 and a free bag of pretzels for the damage.

Delta replaced my bag. Jet blue were the dicks that fought me all the way to the Dept of Transportation

My last flight I had my Hiking boots stolen out of my bag in transit. The airline claims it wasn't their responsibility because the bag wasn't broken

Does the big wrestling event come at start of that 45 min or toward the end?

I'm sorry, all they heard was "take a buzz cut to the bag guys pay"

Hard shelled luggage cracks easier than soft sided stuff. I splurged on a 1/

Briggs & Riley checked bag. Their lifetime warranty covers airline damage. Although it cost as much as 7 bags so...

Also, while I know it sucks to have weight limits on luggage but there’s a reason why there’s a limit in place.

Yup, from what I understand it's the limit one person can lift before you need a second according to OSHA.

It's primarily for aircraft weight and balance.
