I was so excited too.

One by one each of them dropped out, canceled, made other plans. Family and friends. Didn't even tell me until I texted or called to confirm with them. One even told me she would be coming (from the coast to the middle of the country) with her boyfriend, then the just other night (when we were talking about something else) mentioned that she doesn't have the days surrounding Thanksgiving off and apparently always knew this. Why even say you'd be coming then if you always knew you couldn't? So now it's just me and the bf with way too much food. I know, sounds like it could be great. But at this point I'm humiliated for ever thinking people were actually going to come and the holidays feel 1000x lonelier than I expected them to.

I know I know, woe is me. But let this be a lesson to whoever reads it: don't say you're going to an event that you have no intention of going to! It's a total dick move!

Happy Thanksgiving.

Take the extra food to a homeless shelter? Share your thanksgiving with people who need it.

Do some service that day instead. It'll make you feel good about yourself, or smug, I can't tell the difference. Takes up time anyways

I hate my family, you should be glad you have the peace and quiet.

Those colors would definitely be reversed if I was posting this.

Just be thankful you didn't waste time with a bunch of wankers.

...you make it sound like you already made the food and couldn't just not go grocery shopping for a while.

i don't think that's the point

Yes, but the supposed waste of food is what would bother me the most.

Give the food away to someone who needs it. Maybe got homeless guys around... that way you will your and their Thanksgiving - thanksgiving

Great idea. And as for you "freinds" - sometimes it very good to just sieve the bad ones. Even if nothing is left you can have a clean start

I had something similar happen a couple months ago, made plans and told people months in advance, everyone said they would go. 1/2

Ended up being one person staying for more than 10 minutes. If they don’t make the effort neither should you. It’s hard but sometimes 2/2

You need to let go of people for your own good.

that sucks so hard. i'm sorry. some of these people are not "let go"-able people though. my bf's brother, my parents.

Yeah I guess you don’t have that option. I guess all I would say is if they can’t be bothered neither should you. Helped me a lot.
