There were no Saved Games - you had a 'secret passcode', and every level you went up, it would give you a new 3 letter code. Enter your passcode and your latest code, and it would know what level you would be on. The levels were different maps, so keeping track of your codes would let you replay fun maps.

When you entered your 3 letter code (say ABC), it would print "Welcome to The Bilestoad, ABC." When I hit level 40, my code was TMO, and it printed "Welcome to The Bilestoad, Master TMO."

Playing the game required 10 keys simultaneously:
* 3 to turn the body left, right, and stop
* 3 to move the axe left, right, and stop
* 3 to move the shield left, right, and stop
* 1 joystick button to move forward

Wounds resulted in pools of 'oil' on the ground, and limbs could be cut off. There were also teleport pads and scooter pads that you could ride around the board.
