It was one of these fuck faces. A cave cricket. IN. MY. BED.

Hey, OP..that doesn't look like the crickets who chirp sweetly in the night and jump around in the grass.

No, they fucking-well don't, do they? They're wingless, so they don't chirp. Instead they leap around like assholes..

and try to jump on your head. Jerks.

They have freakishly long limbs, are hefty, and make a disturbingly loud clack when they land on a wall... or the floor...or your face.

While not in the least bit dangerous, they do tend to ruin your night when you see them.

Oh well, I didn't want to sleep anyway.

Cheers.

For scale:

Had a nest of these living under my house in North Carolina when I was stationed there. They were always scaring the hell outta my kids.

Not to self: don't sleep in a cave.

It's been raining a lot here, they tend to proliferate when it is damp..& find their way into homes. So annoying. Cheers.

They are not particularly scary..they just are ugly and can startle you half to death when they jump several feet at you..in the dark.

Hang on. Based on the number of chirps per minute and the ambient temperature in this room, it is a snowy tree cricket.

You can't fool me, @FlightTiger. No wings=no chirps. So there. Cheers.

It was waiting to crawl into your ear.

Yes, well, I ruined his day then. He's outside now, in the rain. Where he belongs.

It's called a mole cricket I think. Got bit by so many of those fuckers in the sandbox at school.

Oh god I'm getting flashbacks

Mole crickets get to the size of small crawdads(2-3 inches long), and they suck balls.

Geez they would probably eat my bearded dragon.

Nah, they eat other bugs and plant roots mostly.
