Do NOT get the remastered version on steam, it's just worse. Unsure if original is also on steam or not. GoG is probably the way to go

This is good advice. I also think all the cool mods like horn of the abyss or wake the gods don't work with the HD remaster. Get the original from gog is best advice

Heroes 3 still has active online community thänks to Horn of The abyss expansion. I still play it with My friends usually once per month

And it is insanely good of you ask me. When they added The latest Castle called Factory, I believe Romero himself made the music for it. I still remember like +20 years ago when we tried to get The online play to work, but it was always such a pain in the butt. These days it works perfectly thanks to Hota expansion

It's so good, they even did a kickstarter on a boardgame for it. Think the target was €50k and it ended up being backed for like €5mil. I bought it :D there's quite a decent modding community for game too.
