Found fungal spores in my unopened bottles of isolation media. $1500 of media is now trash. Time for a word with customer service!

Isolation media is on backorder.... :,) I'll never graduate.

I'm not gonna throw shade on the company because their customer service has actually been excellent. Also this isolation media (when sterile) is fantastic. And not available elsewhere....

I used to call them my new pets, you can look at them grow while you wait for the new media to arrive!

The media has always been suspect.

Hey op, can you explain what any of that means?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

media is used to grow cells in labs. It needs to be sterile so it only grows your cells. This one is moldy. And unopened. Company fucked up.

Aleph is technically correct. In this case this is an isolation media not for growing cells though. It has specific density gradient for½

Isolation of a specific white blood cell from peripheral blood. In either case, company fucked up. 2/2

pfft. just throw it in the microwave for a few minutes.

Lol I know you're joking but even if I killed everything in there the debris from dead fungi/bacteria will activate TLRs and fuck my cells.

Ouch, bro. cockblocking your cells? Not cool.

Research them! Maybe it's the cure for cancer!

Maybe the cure for cancer, maybe mutated human form of Ophiocordyceps. Either is fine

Oh yikes

If it is in back order why not pass it by a 0.22my filter and give it a turne in the old autoclave ?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not sure this kind of media is autoclavable. I did filter some and try it but even a .22um won't get rid of LPS which will damage my culture

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah LPS sucks and the test for it is unprecise, you could do NGS to see if the growth is a culture able to make LPS, or MALDI-tof to do 1/2

Peptide finger print, as it is most likely only one culture but that is my best suggestion, best of luck.

Next gen sequencing? Cytof? Nah I'm not gonna waste money. I'll just make them give me fresh stuff once it's available.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you have the time then thats the best choice, I'm just use to time being the limeting resource not money ;)
