Fuck around and find out.

Ten lawmakers accumulated more than 10 unexcused absences during the 2023 legislative session, triggering for the first time the voter-approved Measure 113.

Done with the pubes!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wish we could do that in New York State.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

10 absences and they lose their job. Walmart only gives us 5 before we get told to fuck off.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I thought they were challenging this on the basis of "it goes into effect after the next election" or something else idiotic. Glad that's not the case?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Definition: fuck around and find out, they found OUT

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yay!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They did this crap last year too, which is why the measure was available. Laughing my ass off that these jackoffs won't be around. Love seeing my vote in action.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh, for those wondering. They were skipping legislation to stall legislation protecting trans folks. Its always about hurting trans kids with these worthless shits

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

for how much these cnts get paid, they do surprisingly little "work" and then they just walk out half the time they DO have to work.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Please be fascis-, er, conservatives.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good, if better than half of Americans missed 10 days of work without calling in they'd be fired.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Proud to say I voted for this. Fuck around and find out. Karma bitches.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I like this.

2 years ago | Likes 96 Dislikes 0

10?! In college just 3 gets you an automatic fail. And in retail you get fired. Ffs they have no excuse for 10+ absences. Id say even 5 is much

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Hopefully they'll be able to pull themselves up by their boot straps and learn how to work hard for a change...

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Politicians only hold office just to pad their resume before going into lobbying.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They want to challenge it in court, but the amended constitution makes it absolutely clear... Oregon constitution Article IV, Section 15 is the measure: https://ballotpedia.org/Article_IV,_Oregon_Constitution

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The only lifeline i could see a court could give them, would be that the court could decide it only counts from the day of implementation, the problem is that neither the ballot issue nor the amended constitution mentions anything about "from now and into the future"..

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Excellent law. Can we do that everywhere?

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

HAHA

Is that lawmaker a slime?

“Independent”. That guy is Brian Boquist, a former special operations soldier turned state senator who, after walking out to block a climate bill, told the press that the State Troopers searching for him and the other Republican walkouts to “send bachelors and come armed”, also known as a terrorist threat.

Seruously, they tried using procedural tactics to stall all legislation and now they’re going home packing. Unfortunately the next band of Republican dipshits are going to do the same

2 years ago | Likes 360 Dislikes 1

Swear in the next batch, INSTANTLY call a procedural vote to change parliabentary rules to allow a 60% vote of PRESENT members to expel any member. Watch this walkout shit end in a heartbeat.

2 years ago | Likes 74 Dislikes 4

Bad idea

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Damn that's a pretty low threshold. Sounds a bit dangerous to me. Especially when Republicans have had control before.

2 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 0

Yup. Don’t cheer for any procedural tool you don’t want the other side to have.

2 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

thing is, republicans will never have a 60% majority there. And without at least majority control, they can't even call a secret sneaky session without inviting democrats. easy enough to eliminate calling a session without notifying everyone.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 7

Not a good idea to rely on that though. Nobody can predict the future.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Trump will never win. Roe v wade will never be lifted. Repubs will never have a 60% majority there.

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I don't know anything about this law, who determines what is an "unexcused" or excused absence? That question aside, don't show up to work, get fired, that is kinda how things work. . .or not work I guess.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

“According to the measure, lawmakers must file paperwork explaining the reason for their absence in order to have it excused. The House Speaker and the Senate President decide if an absence is excused and do not need to explain their reasoning for determining if an absence is unexcused.” - https://www.koin.com/news/politics/explainer-what-does-oregon-measure-113-say-about-lawmaker-absences/

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Should be 5, not 10.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"do not need to explain" That's not right. I could just see a corrupt house speaker or senate president abusing that.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

That's no different from any other job. Your boss does not need to explain why you can't get your PTO on the day you want it. The house speaker and/or the senate president are equivalent to a boss.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Just like school principals. Sounds like it works.

Got a source that's not behind a paywall?

Paywall? I literally Googled that. I have no subscriptions.

Google has a standard deal that your first visit direct from a search bypasses the paywall

I'm not sure this law is a good idea overall. However a basic tenet of protest is you may have to accept the consequences of the protest. And if your cause has enough support others will join you. Think about lunch counter sitdowns. These chodes just wanted to throw tantrums and get their way.

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 7

And they got their way. Out.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Yeah I'm not crying that they're getting kicked. Just worried Republicans will find a way to misuse it in the future.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Yea, I don't think you should govern on the basis on the fears of how a group might abuse a given law, especially when the group has proven they'll abuse any law in their attempt to throw a tantrum whenever they don't get what they want"

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If dems start racking up 10 unexcused absences, they'll *deserve* the same treatment. Statewide support for Measure 113 was pretty high.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Republicans will find and then use a any law to their advantage - that’s a given. The idea that Repubs will engage in governance in a good-will manner is as out dated as the idea that flying cars will be available by 2025.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yeah they are the party of ends justify the means. Always were but now they don't even pretend.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Honestly, that concern crimes up over ANY law, especially a applied to elected officials. We've slowly been gaslit to believe that having ANY rules was standards applied to our politicians is a slippery slope to authoritarianism. It is used to excuse any and all behavior.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah that's true and I'm not suggesting don't pass these kind of rules. Maybe think of them kind of the way you think of cybersecurity and ask yourself what exploits it might have and try to block them. Disclaimer that I don't live in Oregon and I don't know the law in detail.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But this wasn't a protest. They were outnumbered on the vote and decided (because of Oregon's 2/3 quorum rule) to skip so it couldn't be 1/

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

voted on. It was pure and simple case of trying to thwart the will of the majority by abusing the system. More than 2/3 majority and they 2/

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

still couldn't allow it to pass. These fuckers are protesting like the Jan 6 crowd was a "peaceable assembly".

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Yeah, agreed. I was saying even if it was a legit protest there are consequences. If they cared about the issue and not their position, they'd be willing to pay the price.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Just a heads-up, the character limit was raised to 500, so you don't have to split up your posts unless you're essaying.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Or if, like me, you hate the new interface and keep using the old one.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Protip: If you wanna use the old interface, but need more characters for a reply, open the permalink in an incognito window and log in. It will load the new UI with 500 char limit, but wont knock you off the old UI for your general viewing.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good tip, but way more work than I'm likely to put into one of my off-the-cuff imgur responses.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The phrase “unexscused absence” is one I haven’t heard since high school. +1 for just that.

2 years ago | Likes 757 Dislikes 2

TRUENT!

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Was gonna say. They got slapped with kiddie rules in a very adult situation and it's pretty cathartic

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I think this really applies considering many politicians who are adults act like ignorant teenagers who "know everything". Next they need a detention rule for every unexcused absence.

2 years ago | Likes 68 Dislikes 1

There's a lot of other things they need detention for…

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Right? Apparently it went on their permanent record! There really is such a thing! And it's on theirs! Sweet, sweet schadenfreude. If it was dyed red, I'd dip my egg roll in it.

Now we just need them to do regular 'shooter in the building' drills and 'no free food' and maybe they'll start thinking about how they treat our kids...

'No show no call' tends to be the employment term ;)

good job linking to a subscription newsite that the rest of us cant read, whats with you clowns today, is it all media sites advertising on here right now?

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It worked fine for me and I don't have a subscription to any news site.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not that I disagree, but I didn’t link to anything. I’m not @op.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hahaha we have those at Tesla. If you have sick time to cover it, it is excused, otherwise fuck you!

2 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

I work at Walmart. There are things that are excused. Death of a family member. Hospitalization. Natural disaster, helping to clean up a natural disaster. Military deployment. Extreme weather conditions. There's one more I can't remember. Sick with a Dr's note is not one of them. Your allowed 5 unexcused absence in a rolling 6 mo period. Supposed to be termination on the 5th. It not really enforced in our store. They wouldn't have anyone left.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Is that for the Tesla employees? Or does the Tesla just drive away once their owner feels unwell.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Mostly employees. That pos ain't driving itself nowhere with you paying extra.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Without you paying extra ...
