I always find this to look awesome, but then I realize I cannot paint as good as this.

Learn to use White Balance. And bounce the flash off the ceiling. Good paint work.

Jesus, I'd hate to show you what my first attempt looked like. Off to an awesome start, I'd suggest bringing up your highlights next.

I don't trust people who do well on their first attempt. Slaanesh must be backing him.

I MIGHT have made a small pact with the Slaanesh... My butt is still sore.

That's awesome. I wanted to buy some and paint them, but I think I'm going to be such a fail

I thought that too, honestly, I have shaky hands and no eye for art. But I read a few guides and asked the internet for advice. Worth doing!

Thanks dude! =) I'll give it a chance I think

I'll do it when I come back from vacations. Maybe I'll send you a message for advice? =D

Very good! You should also start looking up model painting techniques for dirtiness, battle scarring etc.

That's a great idea, searching now but if you have any links I'd welcome them!

Here's a good tutorial on painting eyes - not hugely useful for marines, but worth a read. http://www.reapermini.com/TheCraft/12

For good blood effects, get some Tamiya acrylic Clear Red. Apply directly for fresh blood, or combine with Quickshade ink for darker gore.

oooooh gore, had not even considered that!

Also my go-to technique for paint scrapes is to paint an area with dark brown, then metallics (leaving some brown around the edge).
