they hate it because it show them that what their family and community taught them about race/sexuality/belief is just plain lies born from blind hatred and stupidity. They think college has a liberal bias, but they know it's not because of the things taught, but because of who attends (people of different background).

Also, a melting pot of ideas. Conservatives hate anything that doesn't fit their world view.

You meet other people, learn about other ideas and find out they’re not ogres. Same thing goes for traveling when you’re oldert=bestazy">

Most of them couldn't get in, and without football, the rate would be a decimal

College is the first time kids can get away from the direct daily influence of their family.

And you get to have sex without having to pay to fly to an island.

Even better, most of the people you are having sex with 1) Aren't named Donald; 2) Genuinely care about consent

Yeah but why did all the engineering buildings have to be the furthest from the dorms? You assholes think we pasty nerds needed more exercise or some shit? We were fine, fuck you.

The problem that Repubs have with college/university is that when you go there, you're exposed to different people with different ideas about life and people and everything...and you learn that that's okay.

When I went to college in the 90s my roommate was a Jewish guy from Texas, across the hall was a prince from Bahrain, one of my best friends was from Egypt, I partied with a guy from kl -all the time, got me in the booth with fatboy slim, made so many lifelong friends that really expanded my worldview after growing up in western MA

Tbh I'd settle for just having walkable cities

I live in a very walkable city, and it's pretty great.

Yeah, I wish the US would stop with the car obsession and actually do the 'park and rail/ride' thing that European cities are doing now, where there's large parking lots (by EU standards) at city limits and specialized public transport going into the city. It saves SO MUCH traffic. You could even make smaller, 'VIP' shuttles that are like smaller buses or large taxis that seat a dozen or so and go directly to specific locations, in cases where you get tons of commuters.

You're getting downvoted because college campuses are commonly food deserts where your only option for a reliable meal is the extortionate dining hall programs. Inserted into your tuition. Want to cook for yourself? Best I can do is the dorm kitchenette. The dorm which is extortionately pricy for the space and limited privacy and shared accommodations. Want to rent off campus? How far do you want to commute to class because everything in the immediate vicinity is pricy. It's a moneymaking thing

Back then the dining halls were pretty cheap, I'd load up for the weekends there. Also, whoppers were 2 for .99
