As his insecurity is a huge red flag be cautious of it. On the other hand years ago we had a room mate that had a ton of male friends and as soon as she became single they were knocking the door down to get to her. There were a few I was super surprised about too, I even thought they were genuine friends of hers. But the rest of them were obvious for anyone looking in from the outside. But there is always genuine friendship out there.

I definitely think it's a fine line between red flag and genuine concern. This guy asking immediately is definitely a red flag. My girlfriend had to cut her guy friends off (some) as they saw me dating her as a "oh shit this is our last shot better get in there" and kept trying to push. All were given chances to respect our relationship multiple times. They just couldn't keep it in their pants. Definitely fine with guy friends as long as they don't try and cross the line.

As a dude, I don't get this mentality. But I enjoy doing witchy stuff like traumatizing the local Mormons by drawing a pentagram ritual in my garage to talk to a recently deceased friend(I'm atheist, but it's fun) and forgetting to clean it up. Using toys in the bedroom, don't mind being the little spoon, am ecstatic if my girl makes more than me. And want you all to have equal opportunity to me. So.. basically just not a Republican.

My last GF was mystified that I didn't want to check her phone, didn't demand she check in, didn't care if she had girl's nights at the bar, and didn't care if she hung out with guy friends. I'm like "Should I be worried? If you say 'yes' then what are we doing here. If you say 'no' then why would I need to." Yeah, that's putting a lot of trust in someone else's honesty, but if I can't do that why am I even dating this person. Only thing I might lose is someone who wasn't worth my time anyway.

3 of my ex-gf's got jealous every time i talked to any other woman friend I had (usually the one I was closest to before we got together). They never did the same thing as what OP posted, but it's just as toxic and part of the reason why they're all exes. Unfortunately, I lost all the women friends for each ex because the exes showed too much hostility, I never noticed, and my friends never told me about it until after a few months/years later.
