I'm currently shopping around for a house to buy in LA. As a 26 year old it's been incredibly discouraging with the insane prices. For example, I stumbled across this updoot house (so cute and so tiny!)...for $650,000 (ʷᵃᵗ).

Holy shit. That buys you a 5 BR/5BA/6000SF house with a movie theater and a bar elsewhere in the country. And it won't slide into the ocean.

Bought a 1000SF house in San Diego for $250K. Sold it for $500K three years later. I'm part of the problem. I'm so sorry.

That is ridiculous, is it like this allover Cali?
flanjam
Cali has higher house prices than most states but it's mainly San Fran and LA that have the outrageous prices

In Oregon you can get a 4 bed 2 1/2 bath on 2 acres of land for $380,000.

That would be the dream! I grew up outside of Portland. The problem is my job, my boyfriend and essentially my whole life is in LA.

In Cleveland you can get a 3 story 6 bed 3 bath mansion with a ballroom for 109k. A 3bed can go for as low as 20k.

Try looking for short sales. I got a $600,000 place for $300,000. But check if plumbing etc is old and termites. Fix can be expensive

Great advice. I'll keep my eyes open.

So leave...a house that size would cost 40 here....

Should have mentioned in the post that my job requires me to be in LA. Trust me, I would leave if my career wasn't here.

A new career and a move then? Out there you have 2 options bend over and take it, or move. I don’t know how you guys deal with it
