Monster has nothing to do with his addiction and everything to do with the species of many fluffy googly-eyed Muppets being 'monster'
*Addendum: Apparently CM's first name is actual Sid. But nobody ever uses it.
Except that all of the muppets have names only two I know of don't. Animal is a party animal. Only CM is defined by his addiction! :P
Elmo, Telly, and Grover all come to mind. Cookie's name happens to be rather unfortunate
I actually (for whatever reason) did some research, and apparently in a 2004 episode CM revealed his name is actually Sid but it changed 1/2
once he became addicted to cookies. Seasame street has some dark ass themes occasionally. 2/2
(If not as dark as Thomas the Tank Engine.)
I mean. He didn't even focus cookies until the third season or so. Far enough back he ate letters and attempted to eat other Muppets even.
