Data was imported from worldometers.com this morning, sorted by cases/1 million residents. Note that Minnesota has a split in state legislature control, and Nebraska state legislatures don't state their party.

17 of the top 20 states for cases/1 million residents have Republican control of at least one branch of state government, while 16 of the bottom 20 have Democratic control of at least one branch of state government.

edit, did some more math. A governor has wide ranging short term epidemic powers while legislatures have to approve longer term actions. So I found average rank (higher number is better) for the following scenarios:

Both Dem: 33
Both Rep: 18 (seriously?)
Dem Governor fighting Rep legislature: 28
Rep Governor supported by/overruled by Dem Legislature: 40

Living in Washington (ground zero in the us) and seeing us down towards the bottom is reassuring

OR is in the bottom 4 and officials here are still worried about the increasing numbers. It's nice when it's taken seriously.

Shit...I read it wrong at first. I'm moving from a good state to a bad state real soon. Fuck.

Even statistics thinks the GOP are assholes.

To be fair CA is both blue and TX is both red and they're top 2 most cases. So hate everyone I guess

Most cases is irrelevant. CA has more people than the 20 least populous states combined. Of course they have a lot of cases.

https://dangoodspeed.com/covid/total-cases-since-june chart of covid by State by party.

Those are the numbers I really wanted to use, but couldn't find a good source of "since June" to C&P into a text file.

Your first statistical analysis isn’t a fair comparison. The data already speaks for itself, don’t twist it with faulty comparisons.

It would have been better to point out that 14 of the top 20 states are entirely republican controlled (assuming I counted right)

Yeah, I wanted to reflect that WI's & MI's governors have had their decisions overruled by Rs, so I went back and did that more explicitly.

Keep in mind, some states, Florida for example, are lying about total cases too. Guess what color these states show up on the chart?

I was thinking about how to unskew the data for that, then realized that even skewed the data was so bad I didn't have to.

Yeh, its a bit silly. Florida doesn't even hide the fact they are lying anymore. They didn't even give numbers a few days ago.
