9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

God this looks so satisfying for the cleaner. Not... not so much for the patient.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It's not painful or anything, just time consuming. My first dentist appt in 10 yrs took 3 hrs to finish the cleaning. No cavities though.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Does it feel good? Because it looks like it does.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No... no... it doesnt

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

question - is a water pik more effective at preventing this or is regular flossing still the best method for prevention?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I want to know too - leaving a dot .

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Brush and use a fitting sized interdental brush. Waterpik is waste of money. Visit hygienist first, its easier to keep teeth clean afterthat

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think I’ll hold off on dental hygiene for awhile. I need to feel that satisfaction.

I have a lower retainer that makes that happen no matter how well I brush

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same here! I just got mine cleaned today.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Satisfying but also fucking gross at the same time

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

MRW i sat sitting here for the longest time wondering what calculus (math) had to do with teeth.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

"sat sitting here" i need sleep

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have to have this done every 6 months. So does my father. The dentist says sometimes it's genetic. I still brush and floss regularly

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

regularly as in like brush twice a day and floss once a day. or like brush once a week and floss every month?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hah! Brush three times a day and floss once.

Really had no idea calculus could refer to something other than the wonderful gift Newton left us.

Is there a youtube sauce?

When you find your fetish.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Tooth fragments or plaque buildup?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you don't have teeth you can't get plaque v

9 years ago | Likes 407 Dislikes 15

Correct, you get massive jawbone atrophy and depending on what decade of your life you become edentulous, dentures might not even work

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You can still get it in your arteries and your brain

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Just rinse with listerine then. Shit. It's not that hard!

Let it make it to the end of Feb before it dies

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Every time I get my teeth cleaned I'm always weirded out by the extra space in my gums.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

The only area i notice is right between my front bottom teeth

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Does it hurt? This sounds stupid but I've never had a cleaning and have been told to get one and I get anxiety about procedures of any kind

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Your gums might be sensitive for a bit afterwards, but no. Feels great once it's done; you don't realize how bad you feel till you don't.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It can be tender, and it feels weird the first time. Find a "sedation dentist" and get a good cleaning under laughing gas.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank for the advice :)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks*

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'd imagine that had to have felt pretty good. I've got a perm retainer on the bottom and this happens to me (not nearly this bad tho)

9 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Had it done last year after 3 years without seeing a dentist, yes it felt good, but also "itched" like crazy for weeks afterward

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah I have a little line of metal lining the back of my lower teeth since I used to have braces, it's definitely not THIS bad though.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I got the top removed and it made things better... can't wait to get the bottom ones off. Had em for almost 20 yrs

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I only had the bottom permanent one placed, can you really get it off? I was planning to spend my entire life with it.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yeah you can get them off... Not fun, but worth it. My taste buds always get sore from it

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

This is great info to know. They put the glue dots too close together on mine and now I can't get those threaded flosser things through.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah same here... very hard to do which is why the above happens often for me (though not as bad)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I relate to this way too much, under my insurance I can get them taken off and put back on but my young has already gotten used to both so

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well as a dental student yeah I for sure enjoy this. I enjoy doing this, only part of a cleaning that's fun for me

9 years ago | Likes 215 Dislikes 0

@DangusStank Does this smell like death?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It doesn't smell good but not the worst. Really bad cavities smell like death

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Wife is a dental hygienist and instructor. This is how she envisions everyone's mouth

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not true u still gotta clean your holes

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have a coworker who has teeth far worse than this. Visible yellow fuzz. Worse halitosis you could ever imagine. You can smell her breath

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

From 6+ feet away. I wish she would get this done

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Keep going I'm almost finished.........

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Would the gums need some sort of stitches or something to close up those huge gaps?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, the gums will regrow a little bit but unfortunately they will likely have recession after this.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Does this hurt the person having it done?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Might be uncomfortable- gums are pretty tender- but it should not be painful.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It can be uncomfortable because the gums are super inflammed and the roots will become exposed so sensitive. But necessary

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Usually if the calculus is that bad, the patient needs a deep cleaning in which they get anesthetized

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I always reccomend a godd deep clean when students come to me for calculus help

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah, that shit always hurts for. But my teeth aren't so good.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, but they get crunchy chunks in their mouth

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm usually pretty good about suctioning the chunks as the break off

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Nice. I'm not, but I'm also not a dentist, nor have I ever tried doing this ever.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Is this... common?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Not super uncommon but if you brush 1-2/day it doesn't get this bad

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What if there was a period where you didn't brush for 7 months?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Then you will most likely have calculus buildup somewhere. I'd recommend going to the dentist because that can cause bone loss/tooth loss

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm guessing this is an extreme case?

9 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 0

Not even, this is a very run of the mill (yet moderate case) most normal people have a smaller version of this - source, Me - Anonymous, DMD

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

is this the tiny thing that smells bad? couldnt he just lick it or pick it away?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

it is so hard and calcified that you def could not lick it away. possibly pick, but without proper instrument you might cause trauma in proc

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not really I see it multiple times/month. If you brush 1-2/day it usually doesn't get this bad

9 years ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 0

What sucks is that once it gets bad, resuming proper hygiene won't fix it. You have to go get it cleaned professionally.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well you should get your teeth professionally cleaned regardless

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Usually??!! Yikes. Also, on a personal side note, what is the origin of your username?

9 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

Also it's Dangus is from Tim and Eric/Dr. Steve Brule

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Haha right on. I had wondered if that was the case.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah I say usually because some diseases make people more prone and some people are genetically more susceptible

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I'm scraping my teeth right now, just to double check that the wimpy floss is doing it's job
