Y'know, I rewatched Elektra after Deadpool & Wolverine, and honestly? Not that awful. I thought the super short runtime held it back more than anything, too many characters with no time to properly develop. Turn it into a miniseries, 6-8 episodes or so, and you might have something.
Original Daredevil, on the other hand, was a stinker. (Except for Colin Farrell who is just having so much fun.)
I think that's something I would like most about being an actor: you get to train and learn from the best in martial arts, horse riding, dancing, speech (e.g. accents), fitness. And you get paid to train and learn from them as well!
He didn't, she did. They make a little joke about it in Deadpool & Wolverine. (I.E. he cheated on her and she wanted the divorce, not him, the nod to it in the movie is glorious)
The thing I loved most is that she told the friends of her kids that she used to be a Ninja. Then she'd pull of some crazy Sai moves and leave them jaw dropping.
It just stays in the muscle memory. Its been 20 years for me since I did my service. At the time I was in the drill squad. Everyone now and then I see a broom stick or any other random pole, and check if i still remember my old routine - I do. And everytime it surprises me. I think she has that feeling with those
I’m going to correct you there….it’s brain memory. The repeated movements carve out specific neural pathways…you activate those pathways just by looking at the broom/weapon. Your muscles are already getting into position at that point and then it’s automatic pilot.
That’s why things go wrong if you become conscious of your actions….you start steering things instead of letting the pathway complete.
Your unconscious brain has the honed skills, your conscious brain is for new ones.
Interesting! Is "muscle memory" a common phrasing in English, because it is in German? It's still technically incorrect, which was also new to me (well done), but it's very commonly used here.
D&W is a masterpiece and I don't care what people say. A sendoff to 20, a summary and sendoff to 20 X-Men, FINALLY we get to Deadpool and Wolverine together, having read everything Deadpool I recognized all the different Deadpools (Headpool is a personal favorite of mine, despite how little time he got in the comics). I DO wish we could get a Deadpool as in the comics though. In the comics, he's far from the movies. He had plenty of psychotic times. He tortured Blind Al for instance. HORRIBLY.
Always impresses me a little bit when actors put in the effort for what turns out to be a terrible film. Would be so easy to just phone it in and have them use a double.
The issue is that sometimes, the actors have no idea the movie is gonna be terrible. Editing, post-prod and the likes can make or break the end result. So either they're being diligent and always putting in the effort, or they believed in the project.
Agree - that’s what sets apart a-listers from the millions of other actors and gets them selected for the next job. Talent is great, but it’s a lot of hard work and savant-like laser focus on the role.
Gambit is Cajun. Tatum is Cajun. He's literally doing a Cajun accent as Cajun, because GAMBIT IS A LONG ESTABLISHED CAJUN CHARACTER and Tatum is Cajun. Filthy casual.
Correction, Gambit has a Cajun accent mixed with Louisiana French, so it's not just a straight up Cajun. Which is what makes it do distinct. Filthy Casual.
Elektra is a long established character made early 1980s, you dolt, and while not popular in films, is in comics. What, you going to use that same stupid argument about Deadpool? Because he was created a whole decade later.
This post is about Jennifer Garner, you ding dong. The "impressive" part they're speaking of is her being able to do these tricks all these years later.
You may want to go get a dictionary and see what the word role means. You know like an actor's role? It seems your problems are both in comprehension and a dwarfed vocabulary.
they're referring to the actress in daredevil movie where she played Elektra a long time ago and is only now rehashing. The one where she learned and retained the tricks showing off in the OP. Not the character Elektra.

As someone with a sandan in ryukyu kobujutsu...you don't use Sai like this. She's got a lot of the basics down solid, but a lot is just show
idiotsonfire
There is never a technique taught to twirl the sai by the tines the way she's doing, but I do see a lot of very accurate holds and flips.
idiotsonfire
She absolutely learned from someone with expertise in martial arts, that's 100% for sure. There's just sadly movie showmanship in there too.

Affleck is a idiot for giving that up.

once dropped a knife as i was trying to catch it midair looking in the reflection of the window, it pierced my leg, balanced a bit then fell
TlsGrz
A falling knife has no grip.
BigRobbo
oh no it does have one... it's just not a grip you want to be wrapping your fingers around if you like them to remain intact.
Vulpesferrilata
Taught that to my 5 year old when the knife I dropped got stuck in the floor after it slipped off the counter. I think he got it.
Darkwell
As someone who caught a falling knife one time, let me tell you: I sure as shit caught it by the blade and made a real mess of my hand.
GravyEducation
It's the hardest instinct to fight but if you drop sharps you should not try to catch it like Neo
Rhythmaster
My dumbass brain would probably try to use my hackeysack reflexes to catch it with my foot, that would be terrible...
