The Florida Project

The plot of land that Disney owns in Florida is over two times the size of manhattan. Walt wanted to be able to control the area surrounding DisneyWorld and to prevent Cheap hotels and tourist shops surrounding it like in California.

Walt planned to build a theme park about 5 times the size of Disneyland California but that was not the centre piece...

Epcot (Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow) was supposed to be the centrepiece of Walt's plans for the Florida project. He planned to create a city that was always at the forefront of technology. He wanted to create a real living city of tomorrow.

The main city comprised of a radial design. A towering hotel was the main centrepiece with shops and amenities and then high density apartments. Within this central hub was supposed to be a indoor climate controlled town centre. Further out in the radial design is the suburban areas and housing. The main form of transport to and from the centre was Disney's people movers.

There was an underground network of roads for trucks and cars moving through the city.

connected to the main city a proposed 1000 acre industrial area.

Walt wanted to demonstrate to the world what american communities can accomplish through proper controlled planning and design.

After Walt Disney died in 1966, his dream of EPCOT died with him and the Walt Disney World Resort opened in 1971 with only the Magic Kingdom and a few hotels. The concept eventually evolved into the EPCOT theme park at the Walt Disney World Resort, which opened in 1982.

Don't let it get to you. People can be funny. It's not that people didn't like it. It's that people didn't see it. Post it again if you want
