Plarn: yarn made from plastic bags

Edible was a project I created using plastic bags to amplify the plastic waste that is single plastic bags. The bags were sourced from my closet, and this project was unintentionally sponsored by #Kroger. I did buy a pattern for the turtle as the competition I applied to only gave a month heads-up for creating the project, but I modified the head to have an opened mouth so I could better position the turtle to eat the jellyfish.

The jellyfish was 100% freehand (made as I went along with no clear instruction) and was my second jellyfish as the first looked like Strawberry Shortcake's hat.

Sea turtles and other marine life will misidentify single use plastic bags in the ocean as jellyfish and ingest them. This can cause the turtle to get really sick, lethargic and die if not treated properly, contributing to their endangered status.

The project is stuffed with the remnants of the plastic bag trimmings to make this project as zero waste as possible.

The turtle itself is held up with 6 plastic straws as a skeletal structure so the fins could hold their weight and not sag or put unneeded strain on the plarn.

The title is because I have a dark sense of humor and wanted something that would shock the viewer but also disarm them to think critically about single plastic use.
