I shot myself w/ a nail gun in 2007. Here’s what it looks like today

Left pic is an X-ray film from 2007 after I shot myself accidentally with a 16ga 2 1/2” finish nail. We opted to keep in because it wasn’t in the bone or anything. I injured my knee recently and got X-rays taken today, which are digital and higher resolution, as you can see. The middle and right picture show the nail today in 2024, bent and broken in half, and the middle break has actually started to corrode and rust away. The nail wasn’t stainless steel, it was hot dipped galvanized, and my theory is that the muscles continued to flex the nail in the middle, it eventually fatigued over 14 years, and the untreated steel started to rust away. That’s the story, thanks for scoping it ?

Left and middle views are from the side, the right one is straight on the middle of my thigh FYI

Once had a guy in my ER who shot himself in the heart with a roofing nail. He survived just fine after surgery.

I was headed to LA to do a carpentry reality show two days later. And the term used for nail removal was “filet your thigh” so I said fuck all that

Huh, bet the rusting metal keeps you from being anemic. Nice implant, the next step to transhumanism is apparently nail based flesh wounds.

And the sink plating stops you from getting sick.

you and the doctors are going to have a wonderful day if you have a car accident and they cart your unconcious ass into a MRI.

Honestly, it was stiff for 3-4 days and then it was fine. Didn’t feel it go it, but that first time I tried to move, I felt the muscle go RIIIIIIIIIIPPP and that sucked. I almost passed out and fell out a second story window. On a Sunday, in a new construction house all alone!

Ooof! Hope you never need an MRI with that metal in your body :-/

That was the discussion we were having. One guy at the MRI place said no, one other guy said maybe

Good call discussing it - seems like an important issue to figure out before it is too late!
