Baby ordered to die in the UK

Here's the other side of the coin guys.

I'll leave links for those interested but here is the short story:

Baby Charlie Gard was born was born with mitochondrial depletion syndrome, after three months of age they noticed their baby getting weaker and weaker, to the point where he need a machine to help him breathe and a tube to eat.

The parents were made aware that there was a possiblity of expirimental treatment in the US that could save the babie's life. The parents started a GoFundMe page and raised $1.7 million to afford the treatment.

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ordered that Charlie not attempt this treatment, and be taken off life support today.

This is the danger when you place all control of your health and well being in the hands of any government body. No government or bureaucracy will ever care as much as those that love you. There are flaws with the US system to be sure, but we at least have the power to make our own choices.

Remember that the power of having a choice is not one we should just hand to ANY government; every life, especially one as young as this, has value. It is not our place to give up on it.

Welcome to the world of Universal Health Care. The Govt. gets to make the decisions.

It's like I tell my kids...whoever pays the bills makes all the decisions. It's the purse strings rule that's always existed like it or not.

While I understand how it's sad. Keeping a very ill baby alive isn't a good thing.

I agree. I feel for the parents, their heartbreak must be unbearable. But sometimes the right thing to do is allow nature to take its course.

To be fair it's better he isn't kept alive if he needs mess just to breathe and eat, a life of pills operations and mess isn't a good life

Who are you to make that decision?

This is what Trump wants for America

Just the opposite. This is what Universal Health Care brings. It's not a Utopia, it's the government making these decisions.

"Wrong because it's real real sad" isn't a concept we follow as a species.

Wrong because they didn't even LET THEM TRY?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

They didn't let them try because the child is suffering horribly and the prognosis isn't good for the experimental treatment.

The parents disagree with your assessment that he is "suffering horribly." I'll trust their word over yours.
