I got to draw Harley Quinn for DC Comics!

After over 18 years of fan art, I got to draw a couple of pages in the DC Harley Quinn comic this year.

Growing up in the 90s, Batman the animated series (the show where Harley Quinn first appeared) in part inspired my desire to be a professional artist. Besides Batman, Harley was/is my favorite character.

in 1998, I got to meet Paul Dini (writer/producer of Batman TAS, and creator of Harley Quinn) at a comic convention, he mentioned that he told Joel Shoemauker (or whatever that shmucks name is) that Drew Barrymore should play Harley Quinn in the movie.

As bad as those movie were, I would have liked to have seen that. So in In 1999, I did my first piece of 3d fan art of Miss Barrymore as Harley (which is pretty rough by today’s standards, but was cutting edge in the 90s.)

Years and hundreds of fan drawings later, we of course got Margot Robbie instead, who stayed surprisingly true to the original character’s personality. She was great, and of course the Harley Quinn comic book is still topping the charts.

When my good friend, and professional comic artist, Moritat asked if I could help him rank our two pages in less than 24 hours... I couldn't say no. with Moritat on inks and finishes, I penciled/drew a dream sequence in issue 28...

...where among other things, I got to design a wedding dress for one of the characters who inspired me to be an artist in the first place. I was at a con recently and saw someone cosplaying as Harley in the dress.

it was an awesome moment and made me feel like a "real" artist.

Over exposed as Harley Quinn may be, I was/am still a fan. Here's to another 18 years of fanart.
