For those that think my job is being a "glorified babysitter," this is what my legs look like today as a result of preventing a student from eloping out of the school on Friday

These are from kicks. I also have bruises on my arms from punches.

For those not in the know, "eloping" is a behavior term for running out of an area without permission.

And yes, I have a wicked sandal tan

storytime

Boo hoo ...

Damn babysitters always need attention...at least that's how it is in the movies I watch

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So......your job sometimes gets physical....ok

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

If by physical, you mean being attacked, then yes

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

That's totally a hickey from Count Suckula!

Kids be crazy

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

My little sister (preschool) came home with a note last year saying that she eloped during play time and we were SO confused till we googled

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The word. Lmao we were imagining a miniature wedding

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Can you watch my kid Friday night?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Depends on a lot of things

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Kick ass sea bass @op!!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Great legs... There, I said it.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 5

Thanks. They work pretty well thusfar

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

I mean yeah I'm sure it's not a cake walk but try being an iron worker

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 5

I can't say I have. Not sure I have the specific skills for that

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

So being a geo teacher doesn't rock?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

First sentence people. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elopement

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

We just call it "escaping"

9 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 2

Oh god they've escaped D:

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And eluding and evading

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

"an act or instance of leaving a safe area or safe premises, done by a person with a mental disorder or cognitive impairment" begs questions

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What question? It seems pretty clear

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Questions Professional Behaviour Therapists probably aren't allowed to answer about their patient's disorders or cognitive impairments.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You would be correct. HIPAA and all that

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I thought eloping was basically getting married?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

http://www.dictionary.com/browse/elopement See definition 2

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Ah I see. Fair enough.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yea, googled it, it's when you run away to get married.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This is one of those times where the word is technically correct, but is not colloquially correct

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

http://www.dictionary.com/browse/elopement It is scientifically correct

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Meh

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Again, sharing scientific terminology = downvote? Wtf imgur

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I appreciate you

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Your username says you're a teacher... I don't think teachers are supposed to lay hands on kids...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

We can intervene if an individual is in danger. Like a 4th grader trying to run onto a busy street

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

What's a 4th grader doing close to a busy street in the first place? They should have been stopped on school grounds..

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The school is right off the highway. We managed to stop them right before the front door

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The front door of the building is not going to be 5 feet from the highway... You made it sound like he was standing at the road...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Does it matter if he was 5 ft from the road or 20 ft from the road? There was a direction of travel that needed to be stopped

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Wear some hockey pads next time, that should keep those little shits away.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Not a bad idea. Need to convince the school to pay for it though

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Just bring your own, your legs will thank you.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Would need to get it approved as equipment. I wear a polar fleece to prevent bites from breaking skin bc they won't approve bracers

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well that's better than nothing. Do they allow superheros at school? You could pretend to be batman and wear a batsuit.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I believe we aren't allowed to have capes

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Eloping literally means to run away secretly in order to get married.

9 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 2

To elope, most literally, means to run away and to not come back to the point of origin. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elopement

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It also means that. But eloping is also the behavioral term for when a person tried to run away for attention or to get out of something

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 3

could we also say truancy?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That is a different thing. Elopement is specifically related to cognitive or emotional impairment while truancy is more criminal

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In my line of work kids/adults who do this are called absconders.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's the term in behavioral science

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So are you a teacher or just work in a place that helps troubled kids? Either way kudos to you I couldn't do it.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I am both. I teach behavior now. I modify behaviors that would normally get a kid kicked out of school

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Well good on you. Keep it up OP.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thanks

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Who the fuck downvoted you stating your profession, and an exceptionally noble one at that??

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

IDK. There is a very salty person

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Great legs...regardless of the abuse.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

They're pretty functional. Good at holding doors closed

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Or getting beat up by unruly students as well...hope it doesn't hurt much.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It's not that bad. There are people in this profession that get much worse. I never had anything broken

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

A truly underappreciated profession. Thankfully...here's to hoping it never comes to that.
