If you liked the FP post of a guy building a house by hand, check out Alone in the Wilderness

I remember watching this on PBS when I was a younger and found it very relaxing. He narrates the whole thing with a lot of personal reflection and nature shots.

"It was good to be back in the wilderness again where everything seems at peace, I was alone just me and the animals…my dream was a dream no longer. What was I capable of that I didn’t know yet?"

He even makes some of his own tools to do the job. He does bring some tools, but makes the handles for them while there.

"You can’t rush it. I don’t want these logs looking as though a boy scout was turned loose on them with a dull hatchet."

He even makes furniture for the interior and a gift for someone who sends him cookies :)

This is the clip I took the images from, but the whole thing is fascinating. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYJKd0rkKss&list=PLHhsu-Vn6jZpBMVJ5Wncizf0wrCw1C0-V

You can order the whole thing here http://www.dickproenneke.com/ , although I'm sure someone online you could find it.

One of my favorite films. I'm 93% certain Ron Swanson would not existe if Dick Proenneke didn't do it first.

I remember seeing this too. I was very calming and strangely interesting, like Bob Ross if he'd been a mountain man instead of a painter.
