Finally quit a horrible job
I worked at this dairy farm for about a year and was pretty much locked into it because I moved away from home to work at this God forsaken place. They break basic Texas workforce laws and treating workers like shit (granted most are here illegally, but they still have families to provide for). The workers get paid little to no money for the work they do and the hazards they are exposed to. As for the laws they are breaking I will list them below.
- They force us to work overtime, but does not pay for the overtime. If you don't work it then you will be fired.
- They have told people that they are not allowed to eat lunch during their shifts because production is low. The main people they had told this to are the milkers who work there for about ten hours six days out of the week. The law says that they are mandated to give the workers either a single 1 hour break for lunch or a thirty minute lunch with 2 fifteen minute breaks if they are working for over 8 hours.
- There are multiple safety hazards on the site that are very inexpensive to fix. I have damn near broken my ankle because of an uncovered manhole that all they do is place a single fucking rock over.
- They do not give the proper training for the equipment we have to use. Oh, and they cut out the seatbelts in these vehicles.
So happy I've left that place. Now all I can do is spread the word about this horrible place. Thank you for listening to my rant.
tl;dr The place I used to work at sucks and are pulling huge no-no's

Sadly, there are loopholes in farm employment. Don't have to abide by labor laws

Should've got yourself fired for missing a Saturday and sued for wrongful termination. If you really care, report them!

Call the labor board and OSHA.

Good for you, I've been there myself.

Same here. It was a Friday and they handed me my check and I walked out without saying anything to anyone after I saw how much it was.

My life is a lot better without that fucking sweatshop

Good for you! I don't know about the U.S. But in the UK you can sue for constructive firing which can be based on personal victimisation 1/2

Or unsuitable working conditions meaning you felt unsafe continuing there. It's worth talking to legal aid and seeing if you have a case
DatGuyInDaPlaid
I'll look into it. Thanks!
DangerDaneDK
OP - did you report them to the authorities???
DatGuyInDaPlaid
