This is why the fawning over Raygun pisses me off so much. The "She gave it a go" crowd completely overlook the fact that it's an awesome art-form with really dedicated cool people doing rad shit. C'mon, I don't buy that. She probably has the body muscle strength but it's just a sequence of body twitches. No rhythm, no creative expression, no free styling skills or anything.

Lol. OK. I have also been practicing keyboard and music production for over 20 years. But I can say I suck at it still. Practice and time doesn't guarantee making someone good at something. She is naturally horrible at breakdancing, and years of practice and training haven't done well for her.

It seems like an awful lot of hate is placed of Raygun for being selected to represent Australia and very little attention is paid to the process and people that selected her.

Her and her husband were part of the selection process. That's one reason people hate them. They run small events too, and she tends to "win" them a good amount. Also, other dancers in Austrailia said they would have done it given the chance, which they were not. She wasn't just picked because some random set of selectors picked her because they thought she had talent... also, it would have been better for her to just say we are not participating. I'm sure she knows she isn't actually good.

The Olympic qualification process is stringent. But it becomes obscure with new territory. Running is straight forward. Be the fastest. From what I understand, there were enough good people in AU. Some say she had connections and was chosen that way, which happens in really anything competitive.

You have to keep in mind, the entirety of any dance competition at the olympics is adjudicated by the ball room dancing committee. So yeah, there were some amazing dancers there, but the metrics for scoring, the selection process for competitors, and everything outside of the actual dancing was pretty suspect to begin with. It is also the case that Break was on its way out for numerous reasons, and that it was not removed from the Olympics because of Raygun and her fucking garbage performance.
